Zack, it was a great night. All I did was spray real good after everyone was gone and poof, no more smell. I began using Ozium in 1974 when I was hiding the smell of the pot I was smoking in my dorm room in high school. A teacher would knock on the door, I would blast it with Ozium before they came in and they could smell nothing but the Ozium. They would see the smoke, but I would say I just smoked a cigarette, never got busted. lol That stuff is the most amazing room freshener I have ever tried. If anyone wants any, walmart sells it in their automotive section with the air fresheners, always get the original scent, the others don't do jack.

Peck, congrats on the Michael Parks collaboration. I was fortunate enough to commission a black blasted billiard from him a while back. One of my best pipes. Michael is really one of the best in the business. Phenomenal master craftsman / artisan. You're in good hands.

Kashmir, I don't usually like the rustic look on pipes but that there is a thing of beauty.

Best thread ever.

Thanks for sharing all this,

it's cool to follow the progress

and see things shaping up and after

seeing the blasts pictured, no words will suffice.
It's just amazing to see them in the raw like that.

Congrats Peck and thanks for sharing. I too love to see the pipes emerging from the block during construction. Good stuff! And those racks are fantastic. You've got a heck of a set up.

Peck, it looks like this commission is picking up steam. Thanks for the steady updates. Add me to the list of guys who loves the blast work on Michael's pipes. I can't wait to see these done.
BTW - What material did you choose for the stems of the 2 pipe set? I thought you had a penchant for acrylic stems, but that looks like ebonite/vulcanite to me.
Cheers,

Pruss - I have no issues with high quality German ebonite since in my experience it really doesn't oxidize. So as between high quality German ebonite and lucite, I really have no preference. The billiard and the Canadian here will have ebonite stems. The poker will have lucite.

As for stains, the poker will have a dark stain. The billiard and the Canadian will have a medium, high contrast stain.

Just out of curiosity, what is that protective material he puts over the stems to protect them during the blast process? Anyone know?

I've heard the same. Haven't had high quality ebonite around for long enough to put it to the test though. I love the look of his finished ebonite stems juxtaposed against the craggy blasts of the pipes.

I was wondering the same thing. If I'm being honest, it looks an awful lot like electrician's tape.
Love the idea of contrast stain on your two pipe set, Peck. That's going to be gorgeous.

Yeah, I was thinking electrical tape as well, but would that stuff really protect the stem from the blasting medium? It doesn't look like the material has any marks on it or anything.

Glad to see the commission finally coming to a finish Peck, its been an awful long journey. Can't wait to see the finished product, I'm hoping it was all worth the wait.
