tennsmoker, very well said. I have been doing the same with various calibers of ammo, and it has served me well.

Tobacco cultivation is a long-term project, much like making wine, barleywine and other high gravity malt beverages. "The Hiker Is Rewarded" as the trailguide says, when he puts in a days work and has time in the twilight to enjoy the fruits of his labor.

Same with wine ... there are some inexpensive ones that are WAYYY better than their pricey counterparts.
Absolutely agree. There is a lot of good wine in the $20-$60 range. No need to spend more than that to get some delicious vino.

I have to agree with Harris. They've definitely alienated me on this issue. I have placed almost weekly large orders with them recently but this gnaws my craw.
I have to be honest, I really enjoy the hunt of finding hard to find tobacco's and the thrill of the score when I get them. It's akin to the same rush I get when I win a pipe auction.
But I will not be paying double since I have found 4-5 other places to get Esoterica. In the past couple weeks I have gotten 8 oz bags of Dunbar, Dorchester, Kingsbridge, Margate, Pembroke, and Tilbury with a little elbow grease.
Oh and P&C, that Dunbar I bought this afternoon from a competitor would've been your business. Interesting to note you STILL have all 7 blends in stock from this morning at your new price point. One has to wonder how much of that business went elsewhere?

IMHO, far too many other tobaccos out there to try to get this hung up about a price increase in just ONE brand.

It's good, sure -- but not THAT good
Yes, that's what they've said in the past about a lot of things.

.22 ammo at $9/550 wasn't that long ago. I know, I bought a box every time that I went in to WallyWhirled.
Just to digress for a moment: How much do you think a dollar will be worth in a year? 5 years? 10 years? It's not good, folks, but that train has left the station and is already heading down the tracks.

I just read on another forum were a man had some Dorchester, that he paid for and was on back order. He got a email asking if he wanted to cancel the order and he said NO,,,next day they canceled it anyway, then jacked up the price.

He stated he will no longer trade with them. How many did they do the same thing to? Nothing but greed in my book.

I'm serious cobguy. You don't need to buy Chateau Petrus to get really good wine. You may be a disbeliever, and there are many on various wine forums who would vehemently disagree with me, but there is actually a lot of good wine available in that range if you are prepared to work and hunt for it.

I had a bag of Blackpool on backorder from them. They cancelled it, sending an e-mail stating that they would no longer be filling backorders for Esoterica blends. I signed up for the in-stock notification anyway, got it, but actually never checked the price. I wasn't going to order it anyway, that happened maybe 2-3 months ago

Makes me wonder about other blends too. C&D hasn't gone up all that much, but I seem to recall 5-6 years ago SG flakes (before the flood they experienced and subsequent tobacco draught which seemed to kick off the difficulty in acquiring the stuff) being almost half the price they are now per pound.

I'm sorry Peck ... thought you were joking as I was refering to the under $20 per bottle selections.
There are DEFINITELY good wines in the $20-$60 range ... but even that price range can be overkill.
Sounds like duckfat knows what i mean! lol

The torch is going dim so I'll light a new one.
As good as Esoterica is, I think it's likely very few of us will pay $100 a pound for it.
Roth, have you ever paid $10 - $12 for a 1.74 oz - 2 oz tin before? At a $100 a pound isn't that only $6.25 an ounce?

Great news!
Check your e-mail.
P&C just announced 5% off all Esoterica blends!
Get it while it's in stock, my friends.

Ounces to ounces is apples to oranges?
You yanks really need to embrace the metric system. Up here a gram is a gram, end of story.

OK Roth, apples & oranges, they all have weight, they all have a price. Since it was put out there at $100 a pound, I didn't realize we were limited to a certain batch size.
If you or anyone lets the price on one brand drive you away from the rest of their products, so be it.
And yes you can back order the Esoterica, but you have to do it by phone and you don't pay until it ships. That is generally why when it does come in, it is sold out. The Backorders go out first.

Cancelling orders with the price increase, I don't know. All my orders have been filled and I have nothing pending right now.
