After a TAD order hit the porch this afternoon, i've been a busy bee. All less enthusiastic work aside, for the rest of the evening there shall only be time for my preferred "work." Tasting a few new things.

First up was HU's Edward G (which i just finished):

And now, onto the St. Bernard Flake. Hopes are up as i've heard good things. Going to throw a bowl in a trusty lil Stanwell and get to "work."

I've noted that as well. Named after the same infamous man. ;)

Moving right along through the new stuff, as i always lack patience when there's to-try baccy laying around, 2 more before bed. I like to think of it more as dedication and stick to-it-iveness. :P

I am smoking a tin of Four Square Curlies from 1987. 20240719_150711.jpg

The aroma when opening the tin was a bit subdued. But smelled like good Virginia tobacco. There was no hint of a top dressing, until I lit a bowl. It has quite a floral flavor to the smoke which lessened substantially after the first few puffs.
The tobacco was remarkably moist in the tin (I almost expected crunchy flakes), and in exceptionally good condition for its age. It was enjoyable, very smokeable, but a bit too flavored for my taste. As I recall I bought the tin when the distributor discontinued importing Dobie's tobaccos, about 1987.
Hope you enjoy the pictures.
Oh, The price tag was on the back of the can, $3.75.

This is Mac Baren Navy Flake from 2004. Way back when, I found that this was Mark Tinsky's favorite blend. He was always looking for it, specially if aged. I didn't understand why, but went ahead and stockpiled it anyway. Well... Now I know.

This is how I keep the tin after opening: a no. 4 rubber band around the lid. It works for me, with everything being consumed within one week.
