I don't think the hipster phenomenon can hold a candle to the drama around the debate over it here. I've had quite a few laughs in the last few pages. The Nikon DF review is hilarious and plenty of witty comments too. Kudos to drumweezer for sticking her head out with a slightly varied opinion, always nice to read those.
Personally, I would question my own state of individual realization if I were that agitated by the ephemeral shenanigans of some sector of society. That type of reaction can be interesting and often enlightening to look at, imo.

Then again, virtue signaling of denial of actual problems in favor of symbolic ones appears to be a human pathology.

I'm certainly not calling for the thread to be locked. Way too much fun! When one has been a member long enough and understands what triggers a "lock," one can usually see it coming, sometimes a page or two in advance.
I love that someone feels the need to throw their sexual orientation around as some sort of qualifier, weapon or armor. Who cares! For her, this apparently defines her as a person. Fine. Good for her! I do admit that I am eagerly looking forward further "eye opening" announcements, they add a certain spice to the discussion for this salacious, old, white, man.
I have the sense that at least some posters actively seek less than civil confrontation. Not a thing wrong with that on many discussion boards! Here it runs against the spirit which Kevin would like to see. Debate is one thing. Seeking to seriously rile the members, codgers or not, is another. I favor a spirited debates and conversations with a certain level of civil back and forth. I enjoy "knock down, drag outs" also. This simply is not the place. There are other sites which favor such if one wants to muck around in a serious, name calling, spite filled discussion.

Even a passive aggressive can be polite. In fact civility practiced until is grates is wonderfully passive aggressive. A trick I used many a time to push the right buttons where necessary when I was a copper.
If western civilization is indeed in danger of falling via comments of strong intelligent women on this forum OR the inane depredations of the fiercely maligned hipster, then let it fall. A foundation so sickly needs to be rebuilt on surer footing.

As illustrated by the Original Post. Deathmetal, you are an intelligent, witty and prolific contributor to this forum. I can only hope you eventually grow out of condescending and anachronistic arguments in the future. As someone who flies off the handle at the drop of a hat, I admire your ability to keep your cool in the face of spirited dissent and I appreciate the time and energy you put into creating interesting conversations here.

Rudeness generates rudeness. Drumweezer presented her viewpoint, the thread weaves in and out regarding subjecting matter, and generated responses. I believe that was her intent, that it was simply a stream of consciousness with no point I could discern, I can be dense at times, generated the responses she wanted. She needs to learn to write, read, rewrite and edit yet another time when writing a lengthy diatribe so that it is to the point and, most importantly, easy to read on a screen.

I would hesitate to buy into your idea that a building full of psychopaths, sociopaths and other misfits is in any way comparable to society in general. To be sure, there are those types on the outside but, to compare the behavior of a prison population is a bit of a stretch for me. You were dealing with a concentration of people who have demonstrated their inability/unwillingness to live quietly in society. That they were locked up means they demonstrated that inability more than once or twice given, society's desire to save money and the reluctance to incarcerate any but the worst of the worst.
