There's current day music? Ha ha, blues and bluegrass are my favorite genres. They never go out of style. I have heard some Jerry Garcia bluegrass that was very good.
Cosmic - I was thinking of rap, hip-hop and what passes for current pop and rock music. Even the country music of today pales in comparison of the country music from the 60s - 70s.
I think billkay just insulted those of us living in the south.
current modern day music makes Canned Heat, Led Zeppelin and the Grateful Dead sound like Beethoven and Mozart
That's because the older stuff was authentic...real musicians, writers and singers who made their own start. The modern commercial "music" of all genres is mostly created by corporate staff time-clock punchers somewhere. And "digitally enhanced" performances to make singers who can't sing sound better (which is why they have to lip-sync at the live shows, which seems to be perfectly acceptable now). And who knows what else they do to produce the stuff.I was thinking of rap, hip-hop and what passes for current pop and rock music. Even the country music of today pales in comparison of the country music from the 60s - 70s.
Good for you !! Because of the internet the big labels don't have as much power anymore. You can buy almost any song on Itunes for a buck and depending on contracts it can mostly go to the artist. The smaller labels have as much presence on the web as the big boys. Fan driven music is getting bigger and approaching a golden age. I have no idea what constitutes Pop music anymore, other than it being popular.that's why I listen to a lot of independent and small label music.
To answer a legitimate question: yes, almost certainly. Hipsters value anything undiscovered from any era. The point is to be unique or at least different.Do hipsters listen to Canned Heat? Do they even know who Canned Heat is/was?
What?? Canned Heat "undiscovered"?? Nonsense!! :mrgreen:yes, almost certainly. Hipsters value anything undiscovered from any era.
Helloooooo ... Jethro Tull?? Ian Anderson???I'm sorry, but there's no room in rock music for flute solos.
