14 September 2003: New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that the Snapple Beverage Group, a division of Cadbury-Schweppes, had become New York City’s first official corporate marketing partner under the City’s plan to generate revenue by centralizing New York’s marketing assets and intellectual properties.
Well, making a sugar bomb the official drink in 1,200 schools throughout NYC, across all vending machines city-wide, and then going on a 'sugar drink crusade'. Should tell you enough about this turncoat of a politician. Could as well cheer for Mao, Kim, Hussein or Ghaddafi (hey they all made the streets safer ...).

I would say hiding the smokes in a cig shop might create a treasure hunt effect and lighten some peoples day, but as a former cig store employee I feel that a few freak murders might just happen if this passes. Im just glad I dont smoke cigs. I never go to the tobacco store fiending and pissed.

Not to mention Manhattan real estate! Working Joes in the police and fire departments can't even afford to live in the borough they serve to protect! Even the outer buroughs are unaffordable. Shame on the one percenters. They've gentrified the regular Joe right out of town. Richie Rich if you ask me. Not to mention the gall of instating a third term exception for his holiness. Good riddance I say!

You'd think they have bigger fish to fry. Country's in a mess economically. Manufacturing base has been gutted. Unions are a thing of the past. America's middle class are now Walmart junkies and one paycheck away from foreclosure. TV's a wasteland of reality shows and junkotainment. Kids shooting up schools. And they're worried about tobacco and soda pop!?! Washington's gone mad.

I'm guessing these threads with Rich aren't up anymore so I don't know the facts, but being a little leftist doesn't seem like a good enough reason to deny service.

Well, I certainly don't agree with Rich's comments or his admiration for Bloomberg but I definitely think he's entitled to his opinions. I've ordered twice from 4Noggins, have received good service and a good product. I can vehemently disagree with someone's politics (as I do here) but respect the person (as I do here).

Well Rich, you are entitled to your opinions no matter how contrary to reality they are, but you are never getting my business. Bloomberg is a tyrant no matter how you look at it and anyone who defends him is kidding themselves to their and everyone's peril. Quite frankly, I don't give two hoots as to what he does in NYC. If those Yankees are dumb and cowardly enough to allow him to steal elections, then they deserve all the evil him and his ilk bring. What bothers me is that Bloomberg is not content in reducing NYC to a petty dictatorship; he insists on preaching anywhere and everywhere. Bloomberg should just keep his nose where it belongs. New Yorkers can give up their freedoms and rid themselves of any sense of morality for all I care. But how about we return to the way the Founders intended this country and allow the states their freedoms and sovereignty back and sleigh the leviathan.

Okay guys, this thread has gotten way off of track.
Please refrain from attacking personal opinion, and limit discussion to the merits of removing tobacco products from overt display.

I'll make this quick and to the point.
I never said I agreed with the ban on soda or hiding cigarettes. All I did was to complain about the bashing by those that knew nothing of the man. Then I posted some positive accomplishments by Bloomberg. At the end of that posting I wrote "Nobody bats 1000", which means to me is that he has made some mistakes, yes.
If that is being a "Leftist" or will lead to name calling, then screw you. If that means you don't want to do business with someone who doesn't think like you, well, maybe you'll get lucky and Sarah Palin will throw her hat in the ring so you have someone to follow and admire.
I never realized I'd have to justify being a liberal and how you righties see things only one way, YOUR WAY.
So be it.
Rich

We in Forsyth County GA have a similar law in the works aimed at "Pipes"
They are after water and glass pipes but lumped tobacco pipes in as well due to its "potential use with illegal substances"
They mentioned hiding all cigarettes and other tobacco products as well.
Also they are thinking of raising the cost of a business license for tobacco and tobacco product sellers.
Just a matter of time before cigar and pipe shops are all but gone. Taxation, misinformation on the risks, and now all this.
In a downed economy you would think leaving business alone to grow and allow for more jobs would be common sense. I just cant believe how we cannot live and let live anymore...Sad days in the old USA

I guess if I had to trade something for this idiocy, I'd say "ok fine. Hide the tobacco but open the restrictions on ordering on the Internet".

-banned smoking in public places.. even in central park 50 yards from the closest person.. silly

-banned (will try again) larger then 16oz soda. but, didn't ban buying 10 of those 16oz soda. evidently a family that ordered a pizza usually got a 2 liter of soda thrown in, nope can't have that 2 liter.

-'test scores' you mean the test scores of a few that haven't dropped out.
again, why VT and not NY? do you live in NYC and bear the burden he has imposed?
I jumped on your 10% over the weekend.. like someone else mentioned now one less place to check before ordering.

Guys,
This is just silly. We are all adults here having a discussion. If you believe in free markets, then you should also believe in a free marketplace of ideas. People have different viewpoints and different perspectives, and there is nothing wrong with that. If I only did business or engaged in adult discussions with everyone who shared the same perspective that I have on a whole variety of issues, then I would be sitting home alone and talking to a mirror most of the day.
I know very little about what is going on in New York. However, I do have relatives who live there, and they seem fairly happy with the way that city is being run on many fronts. All Rich was doing was pointing out some accomplishments that some might ascribe to Mayor Bloomberg. As he himself indicated, he wasn't saying that the man was a saint or that he agrees with everything he has done, he was just pointing out that you have to judge him by his entire record. You may disagree with this view, and may disagree with Rich's summary of accomplishments ascribed to Mayor Bloomberg, but so what? He is entitled to his opinion. Who here doesn't like enjoying a pipe (and perhaps a libation) and having a friendly argument over a contentious (or non-contentious) issue. I do this with my good friends (and my wife, who would certainly be described by most here as "left of centre") all the time. We seldom agree, but we always remain friends and that's all that counts. To say that you won't do business with Rich because he has a different viewpoint is just plain silliness. I have spent thousands of dollars at 4noggins in just the last few months, and as long as I am happy with the service and the product, I will continue to do so. Frankly, i really could care less about Rich's personal views on soft drinks, gun control or, for that matter, fabric softener (I prefer Downey).
And as for rich living in Vermont and not NY, I don't understand the point. He lives in VT. That doesn't mean he can't have a viewpoint about New York. I live in Canada. I love many places in the US and elsewhere and visit them frequently, and i certainly have viewpoints on those locations.

I agree 100% any business owner has the right to believe whatever he wants. (Now Mr. Awesome AKA Bloomberg doesn’t cause can’t smoke in those places even if the business owner believes you should be able to.) Along with his right to believe whatever, my right to shop at wherever I want. I don’t go out of my way to find out the beliefs of business owners. In the same turn if I do stumble upon the beliefs and I disagree I can’t ignore that when thinking of spending my money. Its not like I wish him horrible things, and going out of business, and frogs, and locusts. Just don’t order from them again. I doubt he even notices, however I notice.

My intention at starting this thread was to discuss the new agenda against tobacco in America. It was not my intent to start a "bashing" party. I truly do feel that hiding tobacco products will do nothing but create a taboo subject and create more curiosity amongst the young crowd because one always wants what one can't have.
Rich
I thank you for your counter perspective. However, you counter perspective was not on the subject of the hiding tobacco products and more in defense of the Bloomberg as a whole. You are free to voice your opinion, I just wish you would have done it in a more tactful manner and with less animosity. The way in which you posted your opinion also made it seem as if it is the official POV of your business and I think that was a mistake. By doing this you opened yourself up to the comments of people doing business with you. I would think as a vendor in this community you would know that, though the community tends to lean towards the right, it is not about being liberal or conservative when it comes to our tobacco, but about preserving our right to do as we please.
