Too funny......I was about to say what about tobacco and you beat me to it. All I can say is if this is your only vice the spousal unit cant get to upset. My wife even joked about it....."you think I don't know what you are up to?" "At least its only pipes".
She knows about the tobacco to.
dont try to kid yourself that you will not buy more. You see that next "deal" and you'll be all over it.
At least we don't "collect" egg cartons.......ummmm right?

frozen,
I have 20 pipes right now. A bit of a mix, a few Canadians of various brands, 4 or 5 Brigham's, 3 Peterson's, a couple Savinelli's and a handful of others. Most of my pipes are of the bent variety and all of them are "classic" shapes, no freehand styles.
There is a few shapes I would like to aquire. Author, Lovat, Cutty, Prince and Liverpool to name a few. I think the first pipe I order in May will be a Savinelli 320 KS or EX. That will put a nice Author into the collection. In mid May (Victoria Day Weekend) my wife and I will be camping in Ohio not far from E A Carey so we plan to go there and browse around and I'm sure I'll pick up a pipe or two there. My 50th birthday is also in May and the big 5-0 is surely a good reason to buy a pipe, don't you think?
It's only a little more than a month away and May will be a good PAD month! Well worth the wait. :D

It takes constant vigilance to defeat PAD. It's part of the needed balance, a discipline, the exercise of which sometimes lapses. I resumed smoking about 2.5 years ago, having sold some 70 pipes, and am up to about a dozen each briars and cobs. Right now I'm only eyeing another 10 cobs, but that urge to spend and spend on pipes that I just have to have may resurrect at any moment, and when it does the only thing that will remain off-limits is my daughter's college fund. I start thinking of selling the furniture and donating blood everyday:).
Truly PAD is a difficult beast.

It sounds like you have a good solid foundation of smokers, may be time to kick it up a notch and dabble in the higher grade old Marques and hand made stuff.

Why not put the abstinence thing to work for you? Keep looking at pipes, but every time you see one that's beggin you to drop some $, take the price of that pipe and set it aside.

Once you reach your buy date, take all the money you would have spent on 2 or 3 pipes and find a really nice one for the same money.

Then again that Sav 320 is a pretty slick pipe !

WELL....I DIDN'T MAKE IT TO MAY.
I'd like to say I'm disappointed but that would be a lie.

I just ordered a sandblasted Canadian from Mark Tinsky. I was trying to hold out but really like this pipe and worried it would be gone before May 1st.

It's for my 50th birthday in May and I'm not going to smoke it till my actual birthday (25th) so I'm still giving myself partial credit on the no more pipes till May thing. lol
I'll post up a couple pics when it comes in.

You made the right decision. The guilt of buying your birthday present(50th at that) 2 weeks early will pass as soon as you light that first bowl. The guilt of missing out on that pipe because you waited would have lasted forever(the one that got away)
For selfish reasons I am glad it was a Canadian(A Tinsky to boot); for some reason I find a good deal on a quality Canadian irresistible. I was in a similar boat in that I didn't plan on picking up another pipe until the Holiday sales start to pick up, came across a nice looking Canadian last week and had to have it.

My SC dealing with my PAD is OTD, but it has been an hour and my eyes are starting to clear now with the new purchases arriving. Looked at what I have spent at P&C in the last 12 months I blacked out. :)

beastkhk, that is how I rationalized it as well. The Canadian is one of my favourite pipe shapes also. Now all I need is the willpower not to smoke it before my birthday. Maybe I can keep busy till then trying to find an exciting new blend to smoke in it on my birthday?
okiescout, sometimes it's better not to look and just pretend it isn't really happening! lol
lonestar, I like how you think. :)

Speaking of Canadians, those NOS Ropp Canadians they have (had?) at Smokingpipes look fantastic.

Too fantastic.

I think I need to start chanting "No More Pipes Once we Hit May!"

(I also bought a Northern Briar stack last week when I saw them on sale at Pipes2smoke, this month has been horrible).

I adore women who say "You should buy it!" I had one like that and it was wonderful. Keep that Tinsky away from the tobacco. It's a celebratory pipe.Happy 50th, when you reach it.

I keep making the mistake of nabbing "deals" instead if waking and investing in one good pipe at a time. Now I've got a rack full of beat up things I dont want to smoke.

Tarak, from where I'm standing the rack of beat up pipes is worth as much as anything (if you're planning on smoking them). My luck with high grades has been horrible.

Given my personality as a "fixer upper" I really should have pursued estate pipes to begin with (I'm just a sucker for "new" "unused" things).

Funny to see this thread reappear, I was just thinking about it. So now that it's alive again I might as well fess up. Not only didn't I make it to May, l bought 5 more pipes and a MM bag of 10 2nds after I bought the Tinsky Canadian.
Frozen...the Ropp Canadian you posted the link too is really nice. It's tagged a sold because it's on its way to me. Should arrive today hopefully. lol

I also ordered and recieved a Savinelli Bayonet Bruyere estate, a Brigham Voyageur bent apple and an MM Country Gentleman & Patriot.
Maxx...to late to wait till my 50th birthday....I broke down and smoked it about three days after it arrived....I'm so weak!! By the way though, it smokes really nice. :D We are camping in Ohio the may long weekend (Victoria Day) and we plan on going to Carey's Pipe shop while there so I may just buy a pipe there for my birthday. Might pick up one for wifey too if one catches her eye.
There's only a week left till May first and I think I can make it now!
No more pipes till May....no more pipes till May....

Jkrug: What a great update. I have been thinking about this thread as well and wondering if you would make it till May. By the looks of that Ropp Canadian it is a good thing you broke down! Enjoy the new purchases.
