Hi All,
I'm a "re-new" pipe smoker. I've just recently taken out my pipe gear that's been in storage for over 10 years! But even back then I had only just gotten started. So I'm restarting, kind of new. :)
I've always had a fascination with smoke, I tried smoking cigarettes when I was younger, I never got into it (smelled awful, made me cough and feel dizzy, not to mention the scare of cancer). Also tried cigars, to me they still give off unpleasant odor and in particular they are cost prohibitive. But a tobacco pipe is a magical beast! The aromatics are pleasant, you don't inhale so it's less harmful, and the costs can be very reasonable!
So now I've got my gear out, just ordered a new lighter (Colibri Connaught II) and some butane (5x Vector) and next up is a nice briar with a big ole bowl (I'm a big guy, holding a "regular" pipe doesn't look right for me :) )
So, hello and hope to see you all around the forums!

Greetings everyone,
My name's Jonathan, I'm 30 years old and I live in Texas. I've been smoking "meerschaum" pipes for about 8 years. I usually only smoke meerschaum pipes with the exception of an old briar viking pipe I inherited from my late Boss that I smoke once in a while in honor of his memory. I mostly smoke aromatic tobacco blends, but I'm always willing to try new things to mix up my rotation.
I don't have any friends to share the joys of pipe smoking with, so I look forward to interacting with you all.
Cheers

Hi All,
My name is Andy, I am 32 from Australia, but I am currently living in Iceland, and probably will be moving to Toronto in the next few months.
I have been pipe smoking for around six months now and am really enjoying the hobby and the learning process. I have a collection Missouri Meerschaum pipes which I love, a Peterson Churchwarden and my newest purchase a Nording Free Hand (see below). This I was lucky enough to purchase last week from the Danish Pipe Shop in Copenhagen. Also I have procured an antique german pipe that I would like some help with, but I will post that in the other forums.
My tobacco collection is growing, (last weeks trip maxed mine and my wife's duty free allowance) also and am really amazed at the difference to the smoking experience from changes in tobaccos I have. I have found the Mac Barren Original blend by far the easiest and coolest smoke with a great well rounded flavor.
This forum has been fantastic and has really steered me in the right direction and I would like to thank all contributors, it makes a huge difference to a novice!!
Be speaking to you soon,
Andy

FINALLY, I am in business!!!

Hi everybody, Tim here from Lawrenceburg, Tn. I just joined the forum and thought I'd introduce myself. I've been smoking pipes for about 3yrs. now and have recently started making pipes. I have no intention of trying to make it a business I just enjoy making them. The first pipe I ever made was for a machinist friend of mine and he wanted it to be an all metal pipe being a machinist. I have made 3 or 4 briar pipes but mostly have been making them from cherry since I have plenty of it available here. They are a two piece threaded system pipe that I designed. Anyway I'm glad to be here! I have some pictures in my album, but if one of you would be kind enough to tell me how to post a picture I'll put a couple here.

Thanks,

Tim

Greetings All!
It all started around September 2012. When I started smoking my first briar featherweight pipe that was purchased at a renaissance fair two years before. Briar pipes are currently what I prefer because of the wooden smooth finish and design. When I first started pipe smoking I bought random Nat Sherman tobacco that. Currently, I am enjoying the Middle Earth blends that I purchased from "justforhim". Curious to know if anyone else has tried of those blends, and which is preferred?
I joined the website for obtaining more knowledge about pipe smoking, good tobacco/pipe reviews.

Heya - figured I ought to introduce myself. I've been piping for a few years, but just recently decided to actually get to know as much about it as I can (as well as learning that I'm being needlessly rough with my pipes). As I live in Texas and can only smoke outdoors, my activity wanes in the summer. I can thank JRR Tolkien and Arthur Conan Doyle for getting me interested in pipes in the first place (as far as I know, no one in my family smokes - even cigaretts). Hope to see you all in the forums.

Hello, everyone. I started smoking pipes in undergrad about 10 years ago now, and enjoy smoking aromatics, English and Virginia blends (pretty much anything but Burley heavy blends). I live in NC, and am lucky enough to have a den where I'm allowed to smoke indoors and out, usually about 3-7 bowls a weeks.
This seems like a great forum, and I look forward to many great conversations.

I think it's about time to introduce myself!
After reading the forums for several months, I figure it's about time I get in on the conversation.
I've been smoking pipes since the beginning of the year. (I smoked my first pipe on New Years Eve.) I quickly fell in love with the hobby and now smoke anywhere from 3-10 bowls a week. I'm a Californian... in Los Angeles... so my locations are limited. But, I always find the time to step outside my home and enjoy the simple pleasure.
As far as tobaccos go, I started on aromatics... and still indulge in some of them, but I find myself enjoying virginias and virginia/periques more and more.
I've been reading the forums and have learned a lot from you all. I look forward to learning much more, and soon, contributing!

Hello all, I'm new to pipe smoking. This site provided me with tons of information on getting started. I'm going back to school in NC for mechanical engineering and thus have a tight budget for now. I picked up an estate Carey Magic Inch (I'm pretty sure it is Oom Paul shape)from a local antique shop for $5. I have much to learn and welcome everyone's expertise. So far I've decided I need to replace the stem. I look forward to learning more from everyone.

Good Day,

Starting with a smoke, it is. I'm up here in the Mississippi of the north, Wisconsin. No insults intended, it's great here. I'm a mean mix of redneck and sophisticated intelectual, go figure. Hillbilly philosopher? Thirty years have taught me how not to burnout a bowl and a tongue. More importantly, wait, there is nothing more important.

Pipe smoking has had no adverse effects yet. Well the X was attracted to it. It hasn't killed me yet. Promises, promises. On the other hand it has been crucial to a stable and spiritual(not religious)exsistence. Along with variety, there's been an almost sacred consistency. It also wages war on my wisdom tooth infection. Good fer evrything that ales ya.

Among many DOIY projects I brew beer too. Have a good smoke. May there be many more. Kurt

Howdy, my name is Shayde. Picked up my first pipe from a local B&M the same place I've boughten all my tobacco. Picked up a Bent Great Dane Missouri meershaum Egg shaped, I absolutely love it. Looking at picking up a Full Bent Dr. Grabow and a clay churchwarden from my local B&M.

So far the only tobaccos I've tried is a house blend raspberry and cream and a pouch of Prince Albert Cherry Vanilla. I haven't had a chance to crack open the pouch of paladin black cherry that I picked up for 20% off at the same place.
List of tobaccos I'm planning on trying soon:

1. Cornell & Diehl - Nutty Irishman

2. The Frog Morton series from McClelland

3. The 221b series from McClelland

4. Hobbit's weed - Tewksbury & co.

5. The Middle Earth series from Just For Him
Upon re-reading A Study in Scarlet I decided to pick up pipe smoking and with LoTR being one of my favorite books of all time, it was only a matter of time before I took pipe smoking up aswell.

And yes it still cheeses me off that Tom Bombadil wasn't in Peter Jacksons movie of the Fellowship of the Ring.
Cheers

Hello everyone. I am new to "proper" pipe smoking. I started smoking cigarettes when I was 12. I actually smoked a pipe for three months when I was 14, but didn't have a clue about the technique for proper bowl packing and cadence. It turned out to just be a novelty phase. I quit smoking cigarettes after 34 years and I will be cigarette free 2 years this December. For the first year after quitting I did not touch tobacco at all. I have smoked good cigars since my early 20's on occasions and decided I was ready to smoke again without inhaling. I just enjoy tobacco too much, so for the last eight months I have been enjoying cigar smoking. Unfortunately it turned out I was spending more money on cigars than I was on my pack and a half a day cigarette habit. I recently found three of my Grandfathers pipes in the basement. Thanks to Youtube I learned how to clean them up and return them to service after being dormant more than 35 years. My wife knows that when I start a new hobby I go all in. This venture is no different and at age 48 I can now appreciate the science and techniques of proper pipe smoking. Thank you everyone who contributes to and maintain sites like these for providing the education and opinions from which I am able to draw from and apply to my journey. I am now a full time pipe smoker and have learned so much over the last three weeks and continue to improve. Thank you my brothers and sisters of the leaf and happy smoking.
Craig

Hello all,
My name is Shayn (pronounced Shane). I live in Mesquite Tx, and I picked up my pipe again after a 15 year hiatus. My favorite pipe right now is my Rovera Coral, and my favorite tobacco is Mark Twain. I am looking forward to trying the Middle Earth Series. I am more of an aromatic smoker, but I don't have anything against latakia blends. Looking forward to gaining knowledge and experience from these forums.

I too as many here have been lurking for a few weeks and decided it was time to join in the fun and conversation. I am ordained in the United Methodist Church and currently work as a chaplain at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital in Cleveland, OH. I spent twelve years in the Air Force as enlsited during Avionic Instruments and Autopilot on a variety of aircraft. I got out of the Air Force, was hired as the Coordinator of Training for a small airline in Milwaukee for six years and then went into ministry. I pastored churches for six years. In 2002 I returned to the Air Force as a chaplain and retired at the end of 2011.
I am married with three daughters and six grandchildren. I have been smoking a pipe on and off for over thirty-five years and have just recently picked it up again. This time though I have decided to experiment with a variety of pipes and tobaccos.
I have already picked up loads of info here just lurking and I appreciated the encouragement and camaraderie of all of you. I am looking forward to contributing myself as we go along!

Greetings everyone. Call me Greg. I've picked up pipe smoking recently and have been skulking about anonymously on these boards for a few weeks. Decided to pull the trigger on joining just a few moments ago. Let's hope I don't make a complete idiot out of myself.(I'm cool with being a partial idiot for the time being)
