Well, I am definitely in the zone. Maybe they just don't like me. I won't mind as long as they take that money off the top on my taxes, or make everyone else pay back the stimulus money next year. puffy

They basically might.. haha. Some of the the stuff in that bill is a loan from next years tax credits. Like the 300 bucks a month for each child.. it starts in July. That will be deducted from child tax credits next year.. so people will be pissed when they don't get that giant tax return, that families have learned to count on.

Personally mine gets captured by the child support enforcement... just as all my tax returns. I've paid them off multiple times now. I've had custody of said child for 4 years. They will not speak to a lawyer... court dates are delayed big time. One day I'll have enough to retire.. once I get that straightened out. Fuck Alabama.. I've recently jumped the river and moved to GA. This is what ran me off.

So, there was a time when I was not a good manager of money. I was married with two children, a new house, and two newer cars. I was in la la land when it came to personal finance. It took selling the house, moving to a house built in 1952, and buying used cars, and not going in debt as a general rule that evolved where from I had started.

My concern is that unless families have the mind set to save and stay out of debt, the stimulous will come to nought.

Alabama does have some of the most outdated and draconian child custody and support laws ever. It's one of my beefs with the Alabama GOP. They pushed this law through a few years ago saying that the non custodial parent was responsible for paying back anything the state gives or has given the child for support, such as Medicare, disability, or even school lunches. So, when a child that I had no idea I had, surfaced, the state came after me to pay back $58,000 that the child's mother had accrued. I will be paying it back till I die. The bitch that hid the child from me was not punished in any way. Just after that law was passed the jails in Alabama doubled in inmates. All of those dads that were paying child support here, that had children of disabled mothers or had children on Medicaid were responsible to pay that back or go to jail. The days I was in court, I watched about 40 men get shackled and taken down stairs. They had jobs, just not jobs that paid enough. It punishes people for not being rich.

For some reason, I haven't gotten any of the stimulus money. I'm pretty sure it's not because I make too much money, unless they set the damned bar really really low, but most likely because I don't get a paycheck, so money isn't withdrawn each month to pay my taxes. I just have to pay them in one lump sum each year. But, I'm not complaining.
If you have a lien it may have been captured as payment.

I thought you said you owed 58k in back child support? What would you call that?
To keep from going to jail, I set down with DHR attorneys and borrowed against my house. I then rolled that loan over when I refinanced last Fall. It set me back a lot, but I managed to do it without having to spend time in jail, and I am pretty sure that after everything we had to do to refinance it, that there were no outstanding liens. I am completely off the hook with DHR now, and I managed to keep the farmland completely out of it.

Oh ok understood I just figured if that was technically owed to the state they would garnish any tax returns or government payouts.

seems you should have qualified for it. Did you do any checking into it? You may be owed

And, to be completely clear, non of that money went to help the child. It went straight to the DHR coffers to help them take more children away from people. The woman/mother of that child was in court screaming at the judge that she never intended for me to know about this child, and she demanded that I not pay child support. We made the judge repeat the law for the court record, because even he thought it was completely wrong and invasive on the decisions of parents.

They also just brought up and then shot down a casino bill, and then the casinos just gave each GOPer (we do not have any other statewide party in AL) a whole bunch of money, and they're bringing the bill back up. Our state is and has always has been the most corrupt government in the US. When there's no competition, the mice run the kitchen.

@BROBS is certainly a member of the communist death cult...

I do like him though.. he's a nice guy.. he really is.
It’s really amazing how a region and history can shape a political opinion. Very interesting, really.

I think a lot of it is ignorance of the details, and fear of new things.

if you took a worldwide political survey, I think one would find an overwhelming majority feel similarly, and it’s not how 1/3 of our country feels.
