It is, yes. But I had to go through Altinay to get it and it was on his website, with his logo, and all of that jazz, so I’m putting the credit where it appeared due. Also, if anyone else wanted to commission one, that’d be the route, at least as far as it was for me.

And, one last note - that statement was a broad one. Sorry if it didn’t read that way. The ram is obviously my favorite Meer, but I meant Altinay’s stuff, in general, is my favorite.
Okay, just checking as Kenan is an independent artisan that most meerschaum dealers distribute and can be contacted through them or directly or through social media.

I honestly don’t know. I’ve never taken it apart; I’ve barely handled it. It’s nestled safely in its case until the time comes.
I hope he hasn't stopped using them. I recently had a permanent fitting replaced and didn't like the expense. My Kenan skull and owl still have them so hopefully it hasn't changed.

Edited to add - I also recognize a lot may have changed in the last few years. This is not to take credit from Kenan - I believe I mentioned him at the outset. Just that when I had it carved, I dealt almost exclusively with Altinay because I believe there was a language barrier with Kenan (at the time).
When I talk with Mustafa at Astas meerschaum, I need to convert from standard to metric, use pictures and diagrams, and be VERY specific. Lol but it always works out.

I initially thought a meer was "better" with a permanent fitting and ultimately chose Altinay for that reason. After hearing about you having to pay a lot to have one fixed, I'll probably never go this route again. I just don't like how loose fitting the screw in ones can be. Like you could just snap it with your hands easily.

Or accidentally twist it the wrong way and bam. But at my rate these days, I’ll be good cleaning a pipe once every few years, so game on!

I wanted to get back to this thread because, coincidentally, I happened to find myself back on this forum within 24 hours of also finding out I’d been accepted into a graduate program doing research on Dall Sheep for the state and the feds.
That’s awesome! As a hunter, I would recommend holding out until you bag one.

Did you ever commission the brown bear?

The replacement inserts I got from Meerschaum Market are much tighter.

Several brands offer them and honestly the only reason that I've avoided Altinay is that the bulk of their selection comes in smaller sizes.

I didn’t. I was working on a design for it and a Chinook and then life happened.

I should still do it, but I think about the investment and how infrequently I smoke. It’d be a seven year set for me.

I've never had a fitting break, regardless of what type it is, in over a decade of smoking meers (knock on wood) so it's just not something that would be a factor in a purchase for me.

But I will say it's just another reason to like Altinay's 9mm pipes, because there's nothing to break with those type of fittings anyway.

I still haven’t smoked this pipe because, quite honestly, I haven’t had a good enough reason. I did take it with me on a sheep hunt this past season, hoping to christen it alongside a notched tag. That was not the case and so it remains, virgin as ever.

If I can’t notch a tag between now and when I graduate with this next degree, I’m thinking a successful defense will be appropriate grounds upon which to do the dirty deed. Hard to think I was just starting my BS three years ago and now this is happening in the fall.

I hope you’ve all been well!
Congrats! Also like the forum name!

Here's another Kenan being sold by Altinay that might be right up your alley Duane...looks like it'd be a good lunting pipe for you:
