I haven't heard the term, "long haired music" since forever.

Pop quiz. The term "long haired music" was created in response to a very specific celebrity superstar musician.

Name the musician.

The first to get it right will receive 72 virgins of their choosing. Get it wrong and you'll get 72 virgins of my choosing.

Liberace?

I don't know what I would do with 72 virgins, I am virgin too.

While the history of music is just full of long hairs. There are even fewer red hairs.

If you can, access some portraits of famous violinists like Franz Liszt.
Non-musical famous long-hair: Einstein.
Musical one? Lenny Bernstein?? :)
Who are you guys trying to convince? Hell, at the time when Classical Music was a "thing" it was weird to NOT have long hair... or else you wore a wig to disguise you lack of long hair.

Right on... not what most would consider "long hair" music, but I can dig it.
Generational thing!

I thought all musicians had long hair by the time I was listening to rock as a fairly young kid in the mid-late 60s and then the blessed early and mid to post mid 70s of junior high and high school! "Long haired freaky people" courtesy of the Five Man Electrical Band was just status quo to me, lol.

But you'd hear references to "long haired" music on old shows on TV, etc. which to those folks meant folks that listened to classical music or were kind of old university studious types in a way (at least that's how I took it) and during decades when short hair was "in". Kind of went out the window once long hair became a thing with the youth!

I saw Jordi Savall a few years ago at Duke University's Balwin Auditorium which is famed for its incredible acoustics. Pretty wonderful. A helpful hint. He does not play the viola. That instrument is a little bigger than a violin and in a lower range, and is played under the chin, and is a standard part of the string sections of most symphony orchestras along with violins, cellos, and bass violins. What Mr. Savall plays is the viola da gamba, which more resembles a cello, played between the knees, and was more common in the 18th Century, and has a special tonal quality that Savall has mastered. Classical music has stuffy cultural associations but is interesting and engaging for anyone to listen to. It will keep your brain awake and working on long haul drives, for example. Just relax, listen, and find your enjoyment, and I think you will be surprised at how engaging it is. Tell us how it went! To be honest, when I saw the title of the original post, I assumed it was a rap group.
