I saw Jordi Savall a few years ago at Duke University's Balwin Auditorium which is famed for its incredible acoustics. Pretty wonderful. A helpful hint. He does not play the viola. That instrument is a little bigger than a violin and in a lower range, and is played under the chin, and is a standard part of the string sections of most symphony orchestras along with violins, cellos, and bass violins. What Mr. Savall plays is the viola da gamba, which more resembles a cello, played between the knees, and was more common in the 18th Century, and has a special tonal quality that Savall has mastered. Classical music has stuffy cultural associations but is interesting and engaging for anyone to listen to. It will keep your brain awake and working on long haul drives, for example. Just relax, listen, and find your enjoyment, and I think you will be surprised at how engaging it is. Tell us how it went! To be honest, when I saw the title of the original post, I assumed it was a rap group.

Thank you for the clarification. Is the viol that same as the viola da gamba? Anyways, I shall report back.

Okay, okay, I can see that this is going nowhere, so here's the answer. It's this guy:

Leopold Stokowski Leopold Stokowski - Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leopold_Stokowski

Yeah, I don't get it either, but he was a major celebrity and star. Move over Wilt Chamberlain, "Stokie" as he was popularly known in less high brow circles, bedded a lot more women than you.

He was a superb musician, and more so an entertainer, who popularized classical music in a way that few, if any, have since matched.

I have always been amenable to classical music along with many other genres. I started listening when I was about seven, the same time I started listening to country music on Chicago's country music show, Suppertime Frolic, and gospel and r&r. For listening to classical music, I get the most pleasure if I don't try to figure it out in terms of the score or musicology, but I just mind trip and often let the music tell me a story, always totally unrelated to any narrative associated with the piece.

Viol is the whole family of instruments including the viola da gamba.

Commies all love classical music. It keeps the people anesthetized and compliant. No one ever listens to Beethoven and then starts flipping cars and setting stuff on fire.

I dunno dude go check the wiki for the Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring and you might have a different opinion.

I guessed Stokowski but lost my nerve for fear of you sending me 72 trans athlete swimmers.

I don't really care for classical much but there is some that is just riveting. For about ten or so years I had season tickets to the opera. Carmen, Turandot, Rigoletto, etc., and many others are simply fantastic when played well.
