That a true collector's price. Your getting a lot more than just the pipe, which looks to be in excellent condition, BTW. There are very rare papers that a Kaywoodie collector would enjoy having in their collection. You're getting the full package. Not a bargain, but not bad at all.

I think that is a fair assessment. I do not disagree, I was just surprised. Given the current presence of rare and unsmoked late 1920s-early 1930s Kaywoodies on eBay, I thought it might get to somewhere between $125 and $150, not close to $200. I had considered putting in a bid, but I was not willing to go over $125.
The box and papers add a lot of value, especially the papers. I have not even seen scans of the pamphlets included in that auction. That National Recovery Administration pamphlet has to be exceedingly rare. I hope the buyer is a member of this forum - I would love to have scans.
The last time I saw a pipe with rare packaging and papers was a WWII Super Grain with push tenon and a pamphlet explaining the push tenon as a way to save metal for the war effort. I wish I had won that pipe.

dmcmtk, I think the box could well be original to the pipe. The papers may be a different story. The National Recovery Administration came about after FDR assumed the presidency in 1933. If KBB discontinued the Pat. App. For stamp in 1932, then there is a mismatch here. Still, a lapse in time between the manufacture of that pipe and its distribution to a retailer, or some similar situation, could account for what is otherwise a mismatch.

I was just going by these two details in the listing,
KBB DRINKLESS KAYWOODIE AGED BRUYERE 7738 SYNCHROSTEM PAT.APP.FOR".
End panel of lid is stamped "7206".

Wow! Oops. I had forgotten about that obvious mismatch. Once more my fixation on the obscure has blinded me to the obvious. The box is of the same era, but not the original box.

I was not surprised by the final price of that pipe.
Rsuninv, On the bright side, you can now chase down a churchwarden that will pass a pipe cleaner. I suspect that feeding a cleaner through the that long stem, even when the stem is separated from the pipe, would be a challenge, especially if the airway in the fitment is the least bit squirrely.

Here is my take on some other Kaywoodies ending last night:
1. Sane and sober as a judge: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251789784788?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
2. Also sane: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251788705538?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
3. Not fully insane, but irrational given the market: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251788401953?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
What are your views on these stars of the Kaywoodie listings?

Buroak, hope springs eternal
I am glad you are in good spirits about that pipe. In the continued spirit of positive mental attitude (gag), you should also think of how many Missouri Meerschaum Cobbits you can buy with your $211.

Agree on 1 and 2. Regarding number 3, that's an unsmoked All Briar with a non stembiter bit. Plus it's a bulldog and a saddle stem. A more desirable shape than say, a straight billiard. That might be the only pipe like that in existence. I'm guessing that pipe won't be smoked. It's a lot of $$, but I understand the attraction.

xrundog, You make fair points about that Allbriar. My assessment was based mostly on the recent history of sold unsmoked Allbriars. I will readily confess that these are not pipes that appeal to me, so I may be overlooking details that add value to certain Allbriars.

What is the story with this Kaywoodie? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Drinkless-Kaywoodie-Aged-Bruyere-47-smoking-pipe-/271752656667?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=c6csgSYIKdKCQiqmCHfOgDILmDI%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
I do not think the bidding was crazy; rather, I am just not sure what to make of this pipe.

There does appear to be a twist. At first I thought it was an overturned Synchrostem, but obviously it cannot be. Is the twist related to the "Safety Arch"?

I have no idea, is it related to the Safety Dance?

Sorry about that...couldn't resist.
