In the sticks in Mississippi
I recently came across this distant cousin from the KBB, Kaywoodie, Yello-Bole, and Frank family. Stamped Flagship, with a circle with the letters NEBPC, for the New England Briar Pipe Company. Has a Kaywoodie 71 shape number, and a silver repair band.

I had a couple oversize Kaywoodie Meerschaums for sale and buroak asked me to post pics here. I'm going to do some copy and paste for the narrative.
I'm calling these pipe rare because I had them for a number of years until I even understood what they are. I have never seen mention of oversized meerschaums in any of the catalogs or collector write ups. And as far as I know I'm the only one who has ever mentioned them online. It's a class of pipe that Kaywoodie obviously produced but not much is known about. Like the later model Kaywoodie POYs, these pipes are in traditional shapes but are about 1/3 larger than the original briar versions. There must be more out there, but I haven't seen or heard of any. Probably guys have them and don't know what to make of them.
First up is a mid-late 50s chub billiard in the 59 shape. It's been smoked but is in very good condition. Some light scratches on the bowl, but no significant defects. Feels like it's been waxed. Maybe the fine scratches are just in the coating.

The stem is in good condition. It shows the correct black in white clover. It has some very light wear at the bit that you have to really look for to notice. It has a 3-hole stinger that dates it. Alignment is good.

The pipe comes with a clamshell case. It has a sash, a Kaywoodie Meerschaum brochure, the original price tag, and a note from Bill Feuerbach of S.M. Frank who sold the pipe as part of the Charles Yetter estate.

The pipe measures: 5.5" x 2" with a 7/8" bore.

The second pipe is a great big Bulldog in the 07C shape in a fitted case. It has a 4-hole stinger with the Drinkless stamp, so I believe it's a 40s 50s pipe. This one has been smoked, but not very much. The shank is starting to show some color. The bowl is in very good condition outside and in.

The stem has the correct black in white clover. It shows no wear and the alignment is perfect.

The case is in excellent conditon. It has the Kaywoodie sticker inside and is stamped "Genuine Block Meerschaum" at the seam.

This is a great big pipe. It measures: 6.5" x 2.25" with an almost 1" bore.

I took a shot at this Handmade Rhodesian and missed by a couple of dollars. Handmades are usually larger and have rustication marks to cover flaws, so this one was unusual.

I have found some great Hand Made smooths for a lot less. None had their box/sock/paperwork, but one was unsmoked. Don't lose heart.

KB & B INTRODUCE NEW BAKELITE PIPE
Due to the great demand for Bakelite socket pipes various innovations in this type of pipe have been attempted but it remained for Kaufmann Bros & Bondy to strike the keynote of a real Bakelite socket pipe in the Supremo, an all Bakelite pipe with a black Bakelite coupler connecting the briar top with the lower bowl
This new black Bakelite coupler positively prevents burnt out bowls, which was one of the principal objections to the old types of Bakelite socket pipes. Difference by shrinkage in briar and Bakelite is over come by the use of the new Bakelite coupler which also insures a full draft and a cool dry smoke.

Haven't had a Supremo, but I've had quite few of that type of pipe. They look great. But the moisture byproduct collects beneath the bowl. If you happen to tip the bowl up you get a pull of tobacco slurry.

Xrundog,

underneath your avatar it should say...

The King of Bakelite

(or something similar)
...because most certainly you are,

no doubt.
And you're not just a passive collector,

you're very well-versed with its history & application,

along with the other alternative stem materials such as Redmanol for example.
I've learned a great deal from reading your stuff.
Thanks for being here and sharing all your knowledge!

:!:

I saw a late 1930's KBB Suntan Drinkless hit the bay yesterday. How high do these usually go?

Peteguy, The price of the pipe will depend greatly on the shape, stinger status, and condition. Kaywoodie Suntan prices have been all over the place. A 1929-1932 unsmoked Suntan recently sold for, I think, less than $60. It was a "London Oval", and my guess is that potential buyers were put off by the tobacco chamber's shape.

Thanks buroak - this one seems to be in fantastic shape so I guess I will just watch from a distance as the price climbs. :)

Hi Fellas!

Been a while since I've been able to post/read/catch-up on the forum. Life had me sidetracked for a while, but all's well now!!

Just picked up this little beauty, a 1928(I think?) KBB Drinkless Premier bent, model #38. This one's right at 5", 27 grams, and hasn't been castrated!

I haven't cleaned this old timer up yet, but it shouldn't take much.

Thanks Guys! She really is an old survivor!
Here's a few more, not as rare, but apropos to this thread and always fun to look at. I always thought these were for "laddy-bucks" who haven't built up their clenching muscles yet!! :D
First one is a Supergrain 5180B with an R designation. Does the "R" mean "Rester"?? I've seen lots of chinresters, but don't recall seeing one in Supergrain grade.

Next one is a Yello-bole 2042R. This one has a push stem.
