This is a set I wish I could have purchased, I really thought about going into some temporary debt to get them. I haven’t been around pipes all that long, but these are the best looking GBD pipes I have seen. A very nice set.

I feel somehow that Charatan had the meerschaums carved specifically for the firm, however, as that "skater" (?) shape is fairly distinctive of Charatan. It's a very '70s shape. There are a handful of these shapes that bear the "Charatan signature.". Another I think is the bent acorn or something to that extent.

Never seen Charatan meerschaum pipes, suppose they did not make meerschaum themselves.

I have seen old Meerschaum pipes in the old "Charatan's Make" logo cases, which I presume to be from the 1890 - 1920s. But this newer "disco" version was a surprise. Here is another example of a modern Charatan shape Meerschaum which was sold on a pipe website (sadly the link is dead but the image survives). Typical modern Charatan.

Unfortunately I can't track down the older (probably early Reuben era?) Meerschaum on eBay, but Worthpoint has these two examples:

Nice! My personal collection is trending very old meers these days. We described our pipe as, "PRE-1920 CHARATAN'S MAKE MEERSCHAUM BILLIARD - *FREDERICK OR REUBEN* ERA"

Very nice and in mint unsmoked condition. Kept safe in their fluffy housing throughout many decades.
The case ( in- and exterior ) looks like new too. Exceptional rare grade with the S logo ( no CP ) on top of the stem.
Supposed to have preceeded the Special grade, so twenties or thirties is my best guess.
