beat off is correct...
Anything over $300.00 for a Blue Riband is crazy, and it better be mint for $300.
I thought the same thing. That had better grain than most Blue Ribands I've seen in a long time. But not $800 worth, that's for sure. The button did appear to have been buffed or sanded down.

The Cadogan era Supreme Grain I have in the classifieds has pretty similar grain, for a whole lot less money!

35 bids on an unsmoked set of Petersons from 1908.
These r just incredible. Where do these pipes come from. there must be more of them out there but r they just left in someones attic or r they only in private estates. the mind boggles.

Looks like crap to me. If that lot is hiding something special, it's lost on me.

Madness @ $201.....shill bidding?
Yeah my thoughts too. It just went up from 30 odd to 200 in about an hour. Auctions don’t normally go crazy on our domestic internet site, there is just not the competition There’s no way I’m bidding on it, as my pipe budget tops out at $30nz - most of my estates have been $5-$15nz. Just wanted to know if anyone picked up on something I hadn’t

cheers

That's wild. It's nice enough (no fills), but don't usually see them go for that much.

I've never seen a 9242 Virgin, with the Hand Cut stem stamp. I was in at a max of $325. I sold my mint 9242 New Standard a few years ago for $500, if memory serves (still have another)

Man i cant beleive these prices. I have several GBDs the most expensive of which iirc cost around $70 (silver military mount 1918) and most of them i either got free, as part of a lot i was bidding on for something else, or under $50.

Did the estate market go crazy?

i have so far never had to pay more than the equivalent of $15us for estate pipes - in NZ it seems the more expensive a pipe is, the worse it is. Bizzare

Well, a few people wanted it more than I. I went $271 in the final seconds, but immediately was topped. Oh well, not to be.

Reuben Charatan’s seem to be going for good money these days. Is this normal?
