For 35 years I smoked cigarettes and was up to 40-a-day.
Around ten years ago I switched to a pipe. I inhale so I don't smoke blends stronger than mild to medium with mild levels of nicotine.
When I smoked cigs I was terribly addicted and would start craving every 30 minutes.
Now I can go many hours without a pipe and not even notice when I'm otherwise occupied.
Cigarettes have a staggering 300-600 added chemicals, some of which are addictive, so I think that has something to do with craving.
Pipe tobacco has none apart from some blends that have harmless PG, glycerine or food grade flavourings.
When I drive a truck occasionally, if I'm on a boring motorway I'll puff on a pre-packed pipe but when I'm not and I need both hands to drive, I'm happy to wait until I get to my destination. [I don't like to clench a pipe]
Now, if I inhaled blends like the ones
@condorlover1 smokes, I'd also feel like I'd been 'punched in the lungs' and I'd probably turn green, lol. He likes the strong stuff
I'm not sure if inhaling is "frowned upon" or not. I smoke for my pleasure so others opinions are neither here nor there.
