I love whennew someone comes by and makes a remark like he did at the beginning of the thread. I sit back and watch the fireworks. It is great entertainment.

Rather than endure the teduim of reading this thread I just weighed in me tuppence worth. I hope it assists in fanning the flames.

Now that I have spoken on the subject and everyone has agreed with me. It is time for the original poster to properly bend his knee and offer his allegence to the crown. If he is worthy, he may gain knight status in a couple of years. For know he can apprentice with the other possibles.

Sev when you get to be an old codger you can do this, my rice dryers for my farms crop, I use one for my Tobbaco, I gravity fill the Silo, tried Cosmics suggestion and Damn the rice would not jump in, had to coax it with a promise it would never be boiled, fried, or Steamed, Heh, Heh, U.S. Old Codgers lie a lot.

Also of important distinction is the pipe. I have pipes with more open draws than others. And so the tobacco needs to be packed tighter.
Don't get offended over sarcasm, and don't stop posting your thoughts, just be careful with definite statements.

Also of importance is the direction of the pipe, or the pipe smoker. I tend to smoke in an inverted position, so gravity filling has it's downside.

I will have to say that I have learned a lot in this thread, and it has stimulated a lot of thought. This morning, I decided to try something new, but really, is there anything new? No, a variation. It is a blending/loading technique that I want to perfect. I just leave all of the pipes in the rack, and toss handfulls of different blends at them, then just smoke the first one that looks full.
I know, I know, it is not just gravity. And, I apologize. Gravity with a tad bit of projection added, simmered over a little chance and randomness. I would be smoking one of these pipes now, but I am undecided which source of fire in which to use to light the pipe. If I use one of the flames that is hot, it may scorch my mouth.
Your suggestions of using the natural force of gravity inspires me, so I think that I will just allow the pipe to ignite on it's own using the natural ambient room light.
:::puff puff::: ...you know, I kind of like this. It burns very cool, but you sacrifice quite a bit of the flavor. I can easily see this bowl lasting quite a while. Cheers! :puffy:

Boy, you guys are mean. The OP has presented a potentially life affirming discovery, gravity, and you guys just upchuck all over it. Or squat all over it. Is the elf poo the secret topping ingredient for Bob's Chocolate Flake?

That Marble Madness song is addicting. 8)
I tried a variation on Cosmic's approach. I rubbed my cat on my head and stuck him on the ceiling. Then I lined up my pipes and threw tobacco at the cat. He then batted the tobacco into the awaiting bowls with an alacrity only seen in cats suspended from the ceiling by static electricity. I can't wait to try more variations. The cat is less enthused.

I agree with Sable. We should encourage learning, not be like clubhouse frat brothers hazing a newbie. $0.02
