You know what would be really killer:
For each pipe technique -- like Warren's "nest and twist," or the Cosmic method of stuffing flakes -- to have a 25-second video showing how it is done.
You can do a lot in 25 seconds.

I suppose I could do ten minutes of my finger in a bowl, gently pressing down and rotating left to right. Sounds like exciting, "don't miss it" TV. I could use a sliced open pipe for good visuals. Anyone got a good looking Dunhill they would lend me? I've got a bandsaw.

Edit it down to three seconds and you have a very useful demonstration of technique.
Yes, yes you can...
I had a flashback to Reddit and SomethingAwful, threw up on myself and am now cowering in a closet whilst clutching an Uzi.

Your use of and at the beginning of your sentence, was not one of them.
I don't do grammar lames unless someone is doing them and is incorrect, such as Fuzzy. Two errors; should be:
Your use of "and" at the beginning of your sentence was not one of them.

My post was between the rails. I call it like a see it. Its not an insult if its true. To many high and mighty guys on here are always disrespecting the younger guys, so something needed to be said. Sorry if you felt it was out of line, but in my opinion its right on target.
It's not truth, it's your perception of it. As for ball busting here, everybody is a potential target, including fossils like me. You're been here long enough. You know better.
I don't disagree with jmatt on the matter of production quality and prep. Yes, I come from the world of professional entertainment, but I'm not expecting that you hire a cohort of support and use a Red for shooting. Zack Snyder had $250,000,000 to make Batman V Superman and look at what a piece of crap that is.
I've seen some pretty good videos made without special lighting, high end cameras, quality sound, careful lighting, etc. They were good because the people who made them thought about how best to use the resources they have, clearly looked critically at the results and took the time and effort to make it effective.
You're absolutely correct that if I don't like it I don't have to watch it. I'll give a video 10 to 20 seconds to connect and move on if it doesn't. If the video is something that a friend or family member made, different rules apply if I'm with them while watching. But as part of the greater public just surfing, I'm done in 10 to 20 sec if there's no connection, useful information, or amusement.
So if the point of these videos is self amusement then there's little to no point to any of this dialogue. On the other hand, if the purpose is to capture the attention of the channel or topic surfing audience, then the video maker needs to make a connection to them. To do that, the video maker needs to think about the audience and how best to connect to them. Doing that well takes practice and knowledge. Pros spend years honing skills. Even when we're good, we still trying to do it better. Critiques are an essential part of the process. You're a community, you can help each other with critiques.
It's not about fancy gear and a crew of 500. It's about the video maker knowing how to connect.

metalheadycigarguy, you seem to be framing this as "old geezers on the forum" versus "new generation on Youtube".
I would consider myself part of the "new breed", as you call it. I'm certainly younger than some of the geezers in the YTPC. In any case, the YTPC is not for me, as I find it narcissistic and I'm not that extroverted. That, coupled with the low density of information in that medium, as many here have alluded to, means I don't visit YTPC. It doesn't interest me.
It's not a matter of "old geezer" versus "new breed".

I call it like I see it.
That's exactly what the people you're complaining about are doing.

Yes, this seems to be a misrepresentation. Hopefully I'm not an "old geezer" at 34.

This is a really good point.
For the sake of helping the YTPC, what do members think they could do here to connect with their audience?
It's not a matter of "old geezer" versus "new breed".
Probably true. But if they wanted to "connect" with geezers, how would it be done?
The little clique of would-be Bolsheviks that decided to set up shop and dictate to us mere mortals on how we ought to speak our own language -- that beginning a sentence with "and" or ending it with a preposition -- were not writers with audiences.
As one writer said, what works is what works. That reminds me of the criticism of power chords when they were new that they were not "real" chords and were too easy to use. In the right context, they work just great. In others.... yeaagggh, not so much.

Wait a second. When power chords were new? 8O How old are you geezers?
"You're a young guy -- right ?" Still going with the insults I see. I was halfway out the door, and you just had to ask!

The new breed vs. the old geezer comments are general comments that I have seen time and time again on this forum. In general the guys that have been smoking pipes for many years and are up there in age seem to think that they know all and flat ignore anyone that's new to the hobby or has been in it for less time. Now I'm not saying all do this, but time and time again I've seen it on the forum. Taking the high and mighty approach and disrespecting younger/newer pipe smokers is not the way to encourage people to join and/or stick with the hobby. Far to often I see someone put down another individual for their tobacco choice or pipe purchase and its not needed. Not everyone can have an overpriced Dunhill, or a nice Rad Davis pipe or etc. Don't knock the guy for being excited about his new Peterson purchase because you don't like them. Feel free to add your thoughts, but the negative comments that are often written in the forum are not needed. That's all I'm saying.

Here's something to brighten up your day.

Fits all criteria listed for entertaining vids. Hate this vid and the problem is with the viewer

That's a fact.

Also check out his Chicago pipe show vids
Here's to me simply batting 1.00 - doubt me? Question it? It's because you're a touch short sighted
