My post was between the rails. I call it like a see it. Its not an insult if its true. To many high and mighty guys on here are always disrespecting the younger guys, so something needed to be said. Sorry if you felt it was out of line, but in my opinion its right on target.
It's not truth, it's your perception of it. As for ball busting here, everybody is a potential target, including fossils like me. You're been here long enough. You know better.
I don't disagree with jmatt on the matter of production quality and prep. Yes, I come from the world of professional entertainment, but I'm not expecting that you hire a cohort of support and use a Red for shooting. Zack Snyder had $250,000,000 to make Batman V Superman and look at what a piece of crap
that is.
I've seen some pretty good videos made without special lighting, high end cameras, quality sound, careful lighting, etc. They were good because the people who made them thought about how best to use the resources they have, clearly looked critically at the results and took the time and effort to make it effective.
You're absolutely correct that if I don't like it I don't have to watch it. I'll give a video 10 to 20 seconds to connect and move on if it doesn't. If the video is something that a friend or family member made, different rules apply if I'm with them while watching. But as part of the greater public just surfing, I'm done in 10 to 20 sec if there's no connection, useful information, or amusement.
So if the point of these videos is self amusement then there's little to no point to any of this dialogue. On the other hand, if the purpose is to capture the attention of the channel or topic surfing audience, then the video maker needs to make a connection to them. To do that, the video maker needs to think about the audience and how best to connect to them. Doing that well takes practice and knowledge. Pros spend years honing skills. Even when we're good, we still trying to do it better. Critiques are an essential part of the process. You're a community, you can help each other with critiques.
It's not about fancy gear and a crew of 500. It's about the video maker knowing how to connect.
