I have all my mason jars on my bookshelf and will pick one at random however I usually am gravitating more towards Vapers at the moment.

Although not in "rotation," my tobacco (mostly jarred) exists in 3 gradations of use:

1. "Cellar" (jars stacked in boxes on shelves in my basement)
2. What is kept in my pipe cabinet
3. The ones I usually reach for in my pipe cabinet

No clue how many jars in the "cellar" ... something over 100 ... most are half-pint, but a some bulks I have quart jars as well.
I do reach for something random out of here every once in a while, just to retry something I'd forgotten about.

As for what's in the pipe cabinet, I keep three categories distinct from each other:
VAs (8ish)
Latakia (3ish)
Aromatic (maybe 2)

But 75% of the time I reach for the same 2 or 3 VAs.
Only occasionally mix it up with one of the other VAs, or with an English or Aro.

For about the past 6 months I've been working my way through a big cellar just over 100 blends stored way in Ball jars, smoking a different blend every day for week then at the end of the week deciding whether or not to keep it or put it in the sell/trade box. The goal being to ultimately slim my cellar down to a small and manageable number of blends, just the ones that I find I really like and want to deep cellar for the long term.

At this point I'm 25 blends into the project and have found 6 keepers so far, and I smoke them frequently in between pipes of whatever my blend of the week is, so at the moment I suppose my rotation is 6 blends! I won't be surprised if my rotation ultimately ends up being around a dozen blends by the time the blend of the week project is over next year, but for now I'm just fine with the 6 blends I have.puffy

I was a pretty infrequent smoker for a lot of years. I think I've finally turned the corner and embraced my inner codger and started smoking in earnest. I had 72 small jam jars full of samples I'd accumulated over the years, 3 open tins, and like 25 small mylar bags with a single bowl portions I have from the last box pass I had participated in.

I am now down to 64 jam jars and 2 open tins. My goal is to work my way down to 36 or so jars and then start on tins or open some bigger jars. Oh I do have a pint jar of Mixture 79 you may see in some of my photos.

I made the rookie mistake early on of basically opening everything I bought as I bought it. Some people may open a tin, smoke the whole thing, and then move on to the next one. I don’t, but I still have too many open. You asked specifically for a number specifically, and it’s probably 20 to 25.

I use the little jam jars for open tins. I have many remnants of open tins and samples from 2013 (my initial cellaring period) that are still in great shape for smoking.

I have tried dozens, mylared and jarred away in a few boxes, but keep a small air tight Pelican case with 9 of the tiny jelly/jam jars that will hold 1.5 to 2 oz. or so and don’t replace a jar with something else until I’ve used it up. Then I go to my “stash” and open a jar or mylar and re-fill one of the little ones back up.

Not a mistake at all! You tried everything first, so you could get a better idea what you like or don't.

I'm on the mission of emptying the jars of the blends I'm sure not buy again. And amazingly did'nt changed my mind about tham. Here and there break the rule with a bowl of faworite one.🤣🤣
Same!

The jar-emptying struggle is real. I have enjoyed staying with a blend for multiple sessions and picking out nuances. But I haven't moved a "hell naw" into the shopping cart.

That sounds like the “007” of pipe tobacco — please post a pic of the Pelican case and jars!

Great to see I'm not the only insane one here lmao

But yeah in general I'd say probably about a dozen or so that are at any 1 time "in my rotation" but there's probably only 3 or 4 out of the hundred or more i have hoarded that I can genuinely call "my blends"... I'm a "collector" type of hoarder lol

I'm also a very on-again-off-again smoker so, unfortunately, the majority seem to be things i open once, try, and forget to jar til i try them again or they become too dry to smoke again 😅

I'm genuinely working on getting better with that tho. I'm making sure this latest sutliff bonanza gets put back correctly then after that will be going through all my old crusty tins and bags and rehydrating and jarring. Most are within 5 years old and still viable. Luckily most of my purchases until late were tins not bulk so it'll be a relatively simple, tho monotonous, task.
