My best blends are in glass jars, their threads are covered with Teflon. I will never be able to open a jar sealed with Teflon. I simply look at them through the glass, like when you go to a museum. It's fascinating.
My brother is like that, only with wine. He says: "you don't have to open a bottle of wine to appreciate it." :)

This thread is quite an eye-opener, as to what folks do with their precious pipeweed. I currently have 16 tobaccos, of which I find - to my surprise - that I'm smoking no fewer than 8, not so much in rotation but according to the rotation of my pipes, which isn't a strict rotation, either: more a case of what kind of a smoke I want at the time dictates both the pipe I select (one of 18) and the type of tobacco the pipe wants. I have to negotiate, you see. :) And as the weather and the season has shifted from summer to winter, I find I am moving away from VA/Pers more to VA/Bur/KYs. I really ought to reduce down to about 4 blends at a time.

I have 5 blends open, which is probably 4 too many.

As far as stock, I've lost track, but it's probably several dozen, plus blending tobaccos, including various Periques and Orientals, as well as Syrian Latakia.

Most of what I have is long OOP. I took the concerns about a coming tobaccopalypse seriously and stocked up on the things I particularly liked. With the exception of a few tins bought out of curiosity, I haven't bought tobacco for the past 4 years.

I am fairly new to pipe smoking so most of the tobaccos I have acquired are currently opened (maybe 9-10 half pint mason jars), trying to decide what I like. I have 2 or 3 that have become my preference and that I smoke more regularly, but still smoke the others from time to time.

It varies with me. Sometimes I'll have a dozen jars that I smoke from regularly.
Sometimes I'll get on a kick with a certain blend and smoke a tin through without smoking anything else.
I'm weird like that I guess.

It's like someone said above. It's a hobby to us and didn't used to be that way. Our grandfathers would go to the drug store and buy a Dr. Grabow and a can of Carter Hall or Prince Albert (or one of a few other blends), smoke it all and go buy another one.
Honestly if that's still the way it was and we didn't have all these options, I would still enjoy a pipe regularly.

Man, the blends that I went through in the early days trying to find what I liked. It's fun finding out. You have some you don't like and give away, and then others I still smoke to this day.
After 10 years, I still love trying new things.

Indeed, and I do. This photo was made in 2023.
yeah, Im like you then. I got a lot of them stacked upon others. It gets tedious stacking glass jars on other glass jars......
Yesterday I bought a cabinet to start stacking all mine properly so they wont break as easily if I fumble one. Would put about 30+ in my rotation

I have about 4-dozen jars that I choose from when I pick something to smoke. This includes blends I’ve stuck in the back of my cellar for years, blends that turn me green, and blends waiting for a new home.

I tried to focus on emptying old jars, but I opened a bunch of new blends to see what to stock up on. Oh well. Jar Acquisition Disorder is probably incurable.
