Gas Prices: What Are You Paying? Does it Change Your Driving Habits?

Here in Northern Illinois (an hour west of Chicago), I paid $5.05 a gallon on Tuesday. Do the gas prices curb your driving? Less trips, shorter trips? The gas prices hasn't changed our driving habits yet, but our trips out with the camper this summer will be closer to home.

My main transportation is a 500cc motorcycle that gets 50+ miles to the gallon, so it’s not much of an issue

The Subaru gets 34 mpg and paid off. So, no, I drive the same.

Right out of high school I worked on the NJ Turnpike doing road service. We only carried premium with us for those out of gas calls and I recall people being angry because I had to charge them for that higher priced gas. It was $.32 cents per gallon.

I suspect people will always feel gas prices are too high.

My Prius averages 54.5 mpg.

Gasoline is now twice as expensive as it was before the pandemic! I had to sell my AMG.

It fluctuates in central N.C., but last I looked, it was $4.39, relatively good by today's standards. But goodbye to the $20 fill-up.

During a gas price war in Neosho, Mo., gas was at 25 cents a gallon when I filled up my boss's newspaper delivery truck that I used for reporting, in summer 1967.

Fortunately, I am not commuting, so that helps.

My car gets 35mpg highway and 28mpg city. Neither my work or nearest grocery store are more than a mile from my house. I only have to fill the tank once per month so really no big issue.

Wife’s 15 yr old Pruis needs to be renewed, gonna buy her a 2023, tank up used to not go over 15$, now over 40$, she’s put so much in that little car, while my 07 Tundra was waiting in the stall. Told her dammit use the Tundra, its too big was her answer!

Early in the pandemic I went four months on one tank of gas. So, I think I'll get by no matter what they charge.

My driving has changed significantly this year, not related entirely to gas prices but I’m aware of their massive increase.

most weeks, seldom do I travel more than 8miles from our house.

i put 15 gallons in our car yesterday, it cost $130us

I’m a delivery driver so unfortunately I can’t drive less. I paid 4.40 a gallon this morning.

I pay €2,17 a liter at the moment, about €8,80 a gallon, which is about $9.20. So I find it funny I hear Americans complain about fuel prices ?. I drive 4 times a week to work, 64km round-trip, if I take it easy ill get 20 to 22 km a liter with the small towncar we have. We are thinking about leasing a smaller electric car, the difference gets smaller and smaller in costs for driving electric vs petrol. I don't mind, we can both charge the car at work, my wife works at the office when I work from home. 90% of the kms driven are to and from work.

Edit: my habits only changed in how I drive, not how much as I don't have a option to do so.

2.25 euros a litre here in Corfu Greece.
luckily being retired I dont need to drive each day but it is 15 km (roughly 10 miles) to my nearest shop so only tend to go a couple of times a week

I still get updates from a fuel price app for NSW (was very useful when I lived there). Today at what used to be my local BP servo E10 is AU$2.09 per litre so...

US Gallon is 3,79 litres (Imperial/UK Gallon is 4,55 litres)

7,92 AU$ per US Gallon or 5.67 US $ per Gallon


In Brazil?

Currently R$5,74 per litre, so R$21,75 or US $4,60 per US Gallon

Not affecting my driving habits; I currently don't have a car.

Paid £111 or thereabouts to fill the tank. When the pump failed to click off at £80 I checked under the car for leaks.
Scary prices.

Lucky to find it in Monterey for less than $6.30. Last fill up was $130, a personal worst.
Doesn't affect my local driving, but may come into play for long trips.

The price of gasoline in itself doesn't say much. It's in relation to income and other expenses that it becomes important. Prices on oil, gas and diesel have doubled here since Russia invaded Ukraine.
We heat our houses with oil. Our two cars run on diesel and our electricity is partly fueled by oil. Almost all of our purchases are of imported goods, transported by companies that escalate prices as much as fuel prices go up and then some. They all make record profits these days it seems.
I estimate that my household's monthly spending has increased around 700-800 $ because of that war.
We sure feel it but no, we drive as much we have to. A mile or two makes no difference.

3/4 of the price for gasoline here in Denmark are taxes and yesterday we had free electricity (apart from taxes), due to windy weather. No wonder EVs, new and used, are selling like hotcakes.
