Never cared for cats, but I hear they’re good on toast with cream gravy.

My son has two. Just spent $2400 in vet bills. I’ll pass.
We were at a friend's house this past winter when a kitten came up to us. Poor thing trecked through a foot of snow, for an entire acre to get to us. Long story short, our new baby kitten, that was free, cost be 500 dollars 3 days later at the vet. Worms, fleas, and mites ....yay......

She's better now, and we wouldn't get rid of her for anything. I'm the one who didn't want a cat, and of course Mila (KitKat) chooses me as her best friend. ?

We have 5 indoor/outdoor cats. For the most part I don't mind them. It's only when the sport killing occurs (baby rabbits, birds etc) that I don't like them. That and bringing ticks into the house....and vet bills. My wife has been experimenting with new recipes and coffee maker cat looks interesting. Although, I think a crockpot or dutch oven makes more sense. I’ll run it by her.

This guy (Joseph) has been a great smoking buddy in the winter while I sit in my idling truck to keep warm. Now with gasoline prices, those days are probably long gone. You guys on the WAYS thread have seen lots of Joe already.

Animals belonged to our family as members as long as I can think?.
We allways were accompanied by 1-2 cats and most of the time by 2 dogs, the last 15 years by australian sheperd dogs, and also two horses.
I wouldn't feel happy without them.
They are our family members together with my wife and our allready grown up 3 kids.
Our cats allways were allowed to go outside, we have a little cat-door at the basement door, and they really are using it all the time.
Because we feed the cats very good, I think they are too lazy to hunt birds or rodents...
We love them all and also spend a lot of money for them, which we don't mind or count.
Simply family???

people who have no animals are missing out on some amazing things. Including that they do the funniest things. Like when I found out cats can fly if motivated properly (dead wild turkey someone was showing off in this case).

Cats can be dear friends. Cats can be pests. A cat was the first domesticated animal I met as a toddler, and it was a female who was soon delivered of four or five kittens. I have always suspected she took me on as a big slow-witted kitten along with her brood. I payed close attention and developed good cat etiquette without knowing it. Ever since, when I meet cats, they see that I was well brought up from a cat's point of view. Alas, mama cat was killed in traffic soon after her kittens were placed. I then grew up with a much beloved Springer/Cocker mix dog, who deserves his own post, a wonderful guy who lived about 15 years, a powerful little guy with fire in his heart and joy in his soul. But a cat got to me first, and cats have always been an easier fit for my habits and ways of life. I'm quiet and meditative, and not quite kinetic or loud enough for dogs, love them though I do. Though I still have George's photo on the wall, the dog. Many cat photos too. I can't even imagine growing out without animals. It is an impossible thought.

Yeah those are the best cats...the ones that think they are dogs.

BTW...I see that meer shank has colored so much more than the bowl...raises some burning questions...someone needs to start a thread to discuss that issue...

Since my dog passed last fall, Joe has gone ahead and fully transitioned to canine. We support his decision.

As far as the meer, I have a love/hate thing going on with that one. After it reached a certain point, the more I smoke it, the lighter it seems to get. Could all be in my head I suppose. I would start a thread to discuss it but apparently meer coloring has been added to the list of banned subject matter. Existing threads can continue through the end of the month, then after that, no more. I can kinda see why.

timt, our two sibling brothers rescued out of a drainpipe turned out to be Maine Coon lookalikes, though one is mackerel tabby with bib and boots and the brother is gray fading to cream on he belly and a little on the face. I don't know what the mix is, if any; they look pedigree, though we did not see that when they were kittens. Maine Coons are notably dog like. They follow you from room to room. They are highly companionable. They nuzzle and head-bump, and when petted vigorously topple down on their sides or backs. Other traits are all-cat, but they definitely have the dog features.

I've heard that one litter may have two or more fathers. Cats have no Puritanical attitudes. They are busy about making more cats. They are way too successful. During kitten season in the spring, the shelters get swamped.

Kittens are adorable and an amazing experience to raise. But I highly recommend adopting adults too, sometimes instead. You know who you are getting, and they can decide if they take a liking to you before you adopt each other.

Joe's mother was our cat (pure white) and she got around, but we eventually were able to get her fixed in between litters. Luckily we found homes for all her kittens, at least the ones we didn't keep, and we now have one female (fixed) and 4 males (fixed). 3 of the 5 are adopted/rescued. Joe's father is a complete mystery to us but Joe definitely has that Maine Coon look about him.
