I started off on cappuccino as my morning drink in Italy, but switched to Machiatti after I realized they were like the perfect amount of milk for me. Finding a decent machiatto here stateside has been a chore. Peets makes a pretty good cappuccino, but put too much milk in their version of a macchiato. I do like the espresso they use and just bought a half pound to try in the moka pot. Not bad at all, IMO.

Thems is good! My fav is the cappuccino, then macc, then a tie for third: espresso or Americano. I started making what I call an Italomera, which has less water than an American.

What bean are you using now? I am happy with an Italian roast I order off the inter-webs.
I buy my beans online from a number of local roasters.
Here is one of my current favourite lighter roasts.

I have an older model Gaggia Classic ($300) and a very nice Eureka Mignon Specialita grinder ($350 direct from Italy).
The grinder was WAY cheaper buying from Italy. They have two options, one is US 110v and the other is plain 110v - both the exact same.
The reason for the two (as I understand) is the US resellers were complaining they were losing business). I got for here if anyone is interested - Espresso Coffee Shop - https://www.espressocoffeeshop.com/

Anyone roast their own green beans? I get the Sweet Marias Espresso Monkey green coffee and roast it on a Behmor 1600. It make a pretty good shot!
Yes to Sweet Maria’s! I have the behmor 1600 as well. I love their espresso blends and buy quite a bit of their single origin stuff since my daily driver is usually a pour over or French press.

I worked at a third wave hipster coffee culture roaster for a couple years and this thread triggers me. I'm sick of all the mysticism, bullshit, and hipsterfuckery.
It’s so true and yet here in San Francisco, it feels like some of that over the top hipsterism is now a bit in the rear view mirror. Some of those places with serious poser attitude didn’t survive and/or were plagued by scandals.

Oh yeah, I visited the one with the pseudo communist logo. I forget the name. Ritual? And then I heard they imploded and someone started Blue Bottle or something like that. You're ringing bells.

Another Sweet Maria's an Behmor 1600 fan. Though once I moved to the Peninsula, I have such a variety of good roasters locally, I just stopped roasting. Just gave the gear to my son.

Ritual I think is doing fine. It’s one of their previous co-owners who left to start four barrel coffee. Great shop, but owner got caught sexually harassing female employees. I think that took the wind out of the sails of the coffee shop owner as rockstar narrative if that makes sense.

I do. I have been through several stages of roasting equipment. Below on the right is my latest (and final) roaster. The one on the left is a HotTop I am thinking about selling. I love it, but never used it anymore with Bertha Bean the Coffee Roaster in the house.

Sweet Maria's is my go-to source also. The owner is passionate about great beans and has a heavy hand in all purchases. I have never had a poor quality green from him yet in hundreds of pound of purchases. Prices are not bad either.

You won't regret it. Well, you might until the bank account gets replenished.... puffy

I roast for others too but only for their personal consumptions and they have to wait until I am roasting. There's nothing worse to me than getting tied down by a hobby.

Same here! I have two neighbors and my 21 yo son hooked. Doing 1 lb batches 4 times each week gets tiresome, but at least it's fun.
