So what you're looking for is a communality. Yeah, that pretty much is a cult. Do have any black & white Nike Decades in a men's size 11 E?
See in my generation there's people who speak of a "sneaker community" so maybe my usage is a little different than the longtimers on here. I know guys who have a whole closet full of Air Jordans, I don't get why they have so many but they wouldn't get why I have so many pipes so we're even.

What the heck!? I did all the things everyone on here told me to do. I bought the pipes. I bought the insane amounts of tobacco. I hoarded the small batch releases. I stored the tobacco. I dried the tobacco. I lit it on fire. I smoked it slowly. I cleaned my pipes. Now you’re telling me there actually isn’t a community!?!

No, they’re telling you it’s actually a cult.

Did you pay for all the advice?

That's a very good point to make actually because frankly I (and I'm sure many others) would happily do all those things without the existence of a "pipe community", and indeed I've never felt an overwhelming desire to seek out any extra "community" or "family" beyond the ones I already enjoy. I don't need to attend the local pipe club to get something out of my pipe collection. But I do enjoy talking tobacco and showing off pipes, so I eventually ended up here. Having worked many years in construction I'm used to older fellas grumpily telling me I'm doing and saying everything wrong, so I feel right at home already. Maybe we should call it the "pipe family"!

The word community in that context is often to cover or justify shame or indulgence by numbers, much like the word hobby. I proudly collect and display toys. Others would say that they have a "collectible hobby".

I agree because I hate overuse of the word "family" for much the same reasons. However I do also believe the hobby/habit/practice of pipes/pipe smoking/pipemaking often reaches beyond those levels and justifies use of the term "community" in at least a certain sense of the word. The video shared several posts back has some good evidence for that.

I use the word hobby and I don't have any shame in anything I consider to be my hobbies. Guys who consider themselves to be in the "sneaker community" are proud of their collections

Nike Decade shoes were part of the mandated attire of the Heaven's Gate cult, who committed mass suicide so that they could travel to an alien space craft hidden behind the Hale-Bopp comet.
