The People's Temple used flavor-aid actually. Heavens Gate used pudding. Just a random fact.*furiously tries to scrub Kool-Aid stains off pipe stem*
Yes I caught the reference, I've even seen it claimed Nike sponsored them to boost sales but I haven't seen any evidence. Seems pretty far fetched but I wouldn't put it past themNike Decade shoes were part of the mandated attire of the Heaven's Gate cult, who committed mass suicide so that they could travel to an alien space craft hidden behind the Hale-Bopp comet.
I believe there's maybe five members still alive today, just as there's still a few Branch Davidians remainingHave any of them checked in here?
While I partially agree with you Boston I believe there are other forces at play here and I don’t believe they are adequately being addressed.Come on now. There's still Sykes and his crew, and EQ, and Boswell...etc...Chins up.
As much as I don’t like to see a loss, I also always look at things like this and say “A parent company wouldn’t be shutting you down if you never sold yourself to a parent company”. It is ultimately a self inflicted outcome. While I partially agree with you Boston I believe there are other forces at play here and I don’t believe they are adequately being addressed.
As Americans I believe many of us hate seeing our beloved companies ,with the tenure Sutliff/Mac Baren had, being sold off or dismantled. Another example I remember fondly visiting the old Remington factory before it was bought out and parted out to several companies. The same can be said of old beverage companies like the original Dr Pepper that used real cane sugar. My grandfather and father hoarded cases of that stuff and fondly remembered its taste in comparison to the crap that it is now. There are many comparisons that can be drawn and that cross many institutions and touch the lives of several generations of Americans. I attended many baseball games at the original Yankee Stadium and made sure to take my children there particularly on the last season of play.
These old companies, factories, brands, products are woven into the fabric that is the dna of Americana. We ,as pipers, go crazy for replicating traits and characteristics of bygone blends and pay top dollar (some of us) for the original ones when they go up on auction! Those feelings and our emotional connection to the past are what makes us reminisce and yearn for a taste of that now in the present. I will go so far as to say we pipers would hate to see any old beloved business from anywhere in the world go out of business OR gutted into pieces of it’s former self. My $.02
Farewell Sutliff/Mac Baren and thanks for the memories

Agreed. For me it's about more than just the consumer aspect, it's also that someday I might not have any Sutliff left to smoke in my pipe that was made for the original Sutliff shop in San Francisco. While I partially agree with you Boston I believe there are other forces at play here and I don’t believe they are adequately being addressed.

"It's over."Both TP and CoJ websites now redirects to P&C![]()
Unfortunately, this is the risk independent small operations run when selling to a large corporation. I've purchased from both of these suppliers when they were presumably, small independents. Both TP and CoJ websites will be turned off. Their phone lines disconnected.
SAD - P & C kinda sucks. Both TP and CoJ websites now redirects to P&C![]()
Are the aliens among us right now? How would we know?Have any of them checked in here?
USOs - Unidentified Smoking ObjectsAre the aliens among us right now? How would we know? And do we care as long as they smoke a pipe?
Maybe I'm too positive at times but I think P&C will get better. Some of the TP/COJ employees are staying on at P&C. The ones whom I have interacted with and heading over there were really great and helpful. I know the community will probably disagree with me that.SAD - P & C kinda sucks.
I appreciate the optimism, especially with actual reasoning behind it. Hope springs eternal. I've mostly had good experiences with P&C myself, to be fair.Maybe I'm too positive at times but I think P&C will get better. Some of the TP/COJ employees are staying on at P&C. The ones whom I have interacted with and heading over there were really great and helpful. I know the community will probably disagree with me that.
It will ultimately come down to if they are given room to suggest and implement improvements or not in their new roles.Maybe I'm too positive at times but I think P&C will get better. Pipe smokers don't care much for it either.I will go so far as to say we pipers would hate to see any old beloved business from anywhere in the world go out of business OR gutted into pieces of it’s former self.
