What... America! I thought this was Lilliput where the giants smoked cobs, and the Lilliputians didn’t know any better! lol
Personally, if I were stranded on an island I'd much rather have a few cobs than a good quality briar. But, that's just my opinion and whatever floats your boat.

Yep, my opinion is in the minority......well, maybe, but at least here.

The Wright brothers ideas of flight was a minority thought

Marconi's idea of transmitting energy wirelessly was once a minority idea as well.

more generally speaking where right and wrong are relative, Frenchmen are a minority in Mexico.

I've had nothing but good experiences with MM cobs, and my favorite is also the Country Gent. I'm looking forward to trying the Mark Twain, as I like that Dublin-esque shape.
I'm not fond of Latakia in a cob. But for burley blends they can't be beat. A broken-in and dedicated cob isn't bad for a Virginia either - though I prefer Virginias in pear wood.
One blend that I've found excels in a cob is Robert McConnell's Scottish Cake.

Just had a Legend with Skandinavik after work. Cool, wonderful smoke. Labrador curled up beside me on the bench in front of the Koi pond, watching the horses chase each other and play, rolling on their backs and running, after the severe thunderstorm cleared out leaving behind a brisk breeze of cool, dry air.
Beautiful. Perfect pipe for the moment. Lovely smoke from a truly "American" pipe.

Ahh... OK. Whatever you say, and whatever relative meaning that has to do with cobs??

Look, if you don't care for them, no problem and I fully understand, but you really seem to be going off on some tangent here. No big thing and relax as its not that big of an issue in the whole grand scheme of things.

Picturesque for sure!
Sometimes I'll joke with my wife when things are really good

and I'll say, "What do you suppose the peasants are up to today?" :D

Not much of a fan of Latakia, but the only one that I smoke is Mississippi River, and only in cob. I don't know, but they just seem to match up so well together for me. It's just simply a matter of whatever works out best for each individual I imagine, and when all is said and done, that's all that really matters.

I thought for sure you would laugh at the Frenchman being a Minority in Mexico. As a comparison to my opinion on cobs being in the minority.
oh well, attempt at humor fail.

How do the Old Dominion cobs stack up against the MMs? I've had about 6 or 7 of the MM cobs but haven't tried a OD yet. They are a little higher in price but the construction is different and might address some of the issued I had with loose stems.

Previously from hippiebrian:
... really can't see a giant cob in front of my face as an option
Glad to hear that you've come around ... welcome to the "Cob Side"!
Yup, I'm glad my ignorance was fixed. Amazing how a 10 dollar pipe can smoke better than a 200 dollar briar. I honestly can't see spending the money on a higher end briar now looking for the same smoking qualities as a 10 buck cob!

I don’t have the Mark Twain as it’s a new release, and so are the Tom Sawyer and the Huck Finn. Mind you, as this is just my personal opinion, but I think the Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn pipes are a joke. The reason I say that is because of the extremely small bowl size (they are both the same, except for the length of the stem).
Other than that, keep an open mind and enjoy what I’m sure you’ll find to be a most enjoyable smoke. As I previously said,I have my share of briars and I enjoy them, but the MM cobs are a treasure. After all the first pipes (for the most part) were noting more than clay (damn HOT little suckers) and briar is nothing more than an offshoot of them as are cobs. After all: it matters not what implement you use to smoke tobacco, but how well it smokes in the implement that you use does it not? Good smoking...

Its not that hard of a decision. What does a cob cost $5. I have had much more expensive disappointments, like Starbucks coffee.

I thought thr Huck Finn looked a little small. It almost resembled the cheap cob pipes that is why I also ordered the Mark Twain. Grand total for both was 12 bucks. If I do not like the Huck Finn I can always use that for when a freind stops by.

In my experience, the new Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer should be about a 20 min smoke. Its the same size bowl ad the Eaton and Pony Express.
Its not nearly as small as the new MM Shortstop which is the MM Miniature with a longer stem.

See, this is why I really don't want to smoke a cob... who the hell would want to be a part of this heated debate??? LOL
Next order for tobacco I will buy one... what the hell, it can't hurt right?
And the Kool-Aid pitcher gets passed......
