I believe they are handling this virus with more caution due to the fact that it is foreign to everyone's immune system, and the highly contagious properties. It can go from 50 people to 1000 in a matter of hours if people are not careful, hence the lock down. Also remember that a virus has the ability to mutate, making it adversely affect a larger number or people (younger/healthier) and become resistant to things like sanitizers. Can you imagine thousands and thousands of sick people who are having severe lung infections, lining up at your hospital trying to be put on a ventilator just to breathe? There are alot of people with weak immune systems, not just elderly. It could be alot more serious than it is if these measures were not being taken. Id call it the "lesser evil"

I don't believe we have half the story. I believe this was an engineered virus that got out from China and we are late to the party.
US residents are stupid as they continue to gather in groups and are ignoring the warnings. The pictures of Clearwater Beach shows how fucking stupid that generation is and they are going to spread this thing a lot
faster than it should.
I think our world will be changed before this is over. I worry about my 4 kids.

All I have is my opinion like everyone else, and it remains this:

If this virus truly warranted the unprecedented, extreme, quasi-martial law measures that are being taken, it would be clearly evidenced by massive widespread sickness all across the demographic spectrum by now IMO.
And I just don't see it. There has not been the degree of control in place long enough to have prevented that, and it's just not happening.

If it was really that bad, you would not have 80 to 90% of those infected only having mild to moderate symptoms.

35,000 plus deaths from the "ordinary" flu in a single year in the U.S. alone and it's not even blinked at.

The ruination of the economy will be blamed on this virus, and the vast majority of people will accept it as having been unavoidable.

Whatever the real truth is in all of this, one thing is clear enough at this point...it's serving as an excuse for another massive bail-out/reset of the banking system and Wall Street just as in '08 except will likely be even bigger. But this time they won't have to deal with the protest that occurred back then because this time it's all being blamed on this virus.

It will also very likely result in a permanent change in our way of life in the manner that the social engineers/ruling elite wanted to implement.

How convenient. You don't suppose all of that might be closer to the real reasons for all of this do you?

Naaahhh...couldn't be.

Our local library system has a neat approach to protect the staff and patrons: if you want a book or movie, you can call in and request it. If materials you have on hold come in, they call you. The librarians schedule a 15 minute pick up window and set your materials on a table outside of the door, and you come and pick it up.

All materials are being wiped down before they go out, and they are not accepting any returns until at least a month after the "all clear."

I now have a stack of hardcopy Robert B. Parker books to work through at my leisure. They were immediately available, vs. the Kindle versions, which are 2-12 weeks out.
Our library just shut down altogether. Bummer. Not sure it was necessary as I've never seen more than 10 people at a time there.

Already saw this locally: went to the liquour store and they had an employee letting people in one by one or by twos only after an equal number of customers went out; they had tape on the floor where you were s'posed to stand to 'maintain the "safe" distance'; I paid in cash and the cashier wouldn't take it from my hand in spite of wearing thick gloves already—I was ordered to put the coins on the counter; cashier asks me 'how's it going?' ( ) and I reply, 'well, very socialistic now, innit?', to which he sternly replies, 'well, we have to play it safe'. Uh-huh, keep telling yourselves that.

I was frankly very disgusted.

Now the city has declared 'state of emergency' and banned more than 5 people together in the same place. At the same time, they're waving public transit fees .

You can hear the marching boots already.

The fact that we have closed so many industries and have been unable to test hardly anyone makes me believe that we are in deep shit and that it was a definite attack by the Chinese. They knew we had barely any tests and that our medical community was in no way ready for this type of thing.
They tried to show a couple hundred thousand dead but that is a drop in the bucket and they have no problem sacrafcing them to make it look like it wasn't their fault. I say nuke those cock suckers.

So yesterday the governor of Illinois followed suit with most of the country and did shelter in place. I called some of the people I work with about how the shutdown was going to work and was told we were not shutting down. I am happy to still be working but I wonder what kind of backroom deal was made we make tires I really don't see that as essential

Assistant Manager of a supermarket in one of the biggest chains in the NY Tri- State area. Work in NY but luckily north of NYC and Westchester.

At the height of the panic I was working 70 + hour weeks and in close proximity to thousands of people. I am healthy so far but the average person is doing a piss poor job regarding social distancing and displaying common courtesy.

I can tell you first hand that manufacturers, distribution centers, warehouses, and truck drivers are doing everything they can to supply retailers. Times are strange but if everyone has patience and courtesy towards each other it will go a long way to making the situation a little easier to get through.
