I love the flavour of the stacked coins but I also find it hard to keep lit. Not an issue when you’re not in a slow smoke contest. I’d try rubbing those coins into ribbon. And also try with loading less tobacco. You might find less is more
Maybe I overfilled the clay pipe and tamped the baccy down too much so it wasn't getting the oxygen it needed to burn...

If you think of putting fire to telephone book. That’s almost impossible. If you rip of the pages and wrinkle them it’s easier. Also in tobacco fibres, there has to be certain space between the fibres for oxygen flow in between. And glowing ember has to keep in touch to the next layer.

Also, Dan if you prefer to smoke brown twist I can spot you some. I actually enjoy mixing the brown and black twists together
Many thanks, I was a bit disappointed that my pipe went out, especially after drying the tobacco out. Smoked all my twist now and out of baccy until I can get some more...
I would be interested in some of the Gawith twist.

@UB 40 Many thanks! I'd like to keep practicing but can't keep smoking dragonweed until it kills me!

@Ahi Ka I'd still like to see how long I can make a clay pipe of baccy last without relighting. Do you think I should go with some brown twist or find something easier to smoke???
Now I know how much baccy my clays hold it will be easier to know how much I'm smoking!

Orc #3.

I definitely think having a go with the brown twist. It’s great tobacco. In fact, I think you should make the most of having access to what comes out of Kendall and slowly work your way through the entire range, from shags to plugs. Even buying them in 10g samples from GQ
@Ahi Ka Should I still keep going for the longest smoking times?
Smokingpipes from the USA are cheap but they don't often have the Gawith range and they tend to use Evri in the UK which are a bit of a pain as I'm not often at home and they don't offer collection like Royal Mail, DPD etc.

Some nitpicking on clay and sepiolite. From the geological point of view Clay and sepiolite are not to be equated with each other. They are totally different in respect to their properties.

Clay is a unique combination of the clay minerals kaolin, illite, chlorite, sepiolite, and smectite. It’s a heterogeneous mixture of those elements. It needs to be burned at high temperature to keep the hardness and shape like clay pipes, pottery… do.

And clays are much cheaper, I like mine,

Sepiolite is a mineral with a characteristic needle shaped crystal structure. “It is a rare mineral with the chemical composition Mg8[(OH)2| Si6O15]2· (4+8) H2O and thus chemically a water-containing magnesium silicate with additional hydroxide ions. According to its crystal structure, it belongs to the phyllosilicates.”
You must be real fun at parties…
