Bought my twist ready; need to find somewhere out of the wind now!
Bus Shelter, Phone Box, Confessional Box, Up a tree, somebody’s garden shed……
Plenty of suitable locations, Dan. Bout time you two got your arse in gear & put this thread to bed isn’t it? Lol, seems like it’s been going on forever. It’ll be the king’s coronation soon!!

As an incentive, I shall offer up a pouch of St. Bruno to the winner!👍
(I only ask for video evidence of the proceedings).

@simong No smoking in bus shelters but plenty of suitable locations! I found out from @Ahi Ka that New Zealand bans imports of tobacco...
I'll be wearing the Redcoat for the King's Coronation.
Going to give it a go over the weekend; I'll post my smoking times on the forum!

Dan let me know how much of your 1g slice fits into both of your clays.

I thought we were going brown twist but no worries, I’ll dig some black Irish out
@Ahi Ka My Jamestown clay holds about 2g of tobacco; the Pollock holds about 2.5g. I'm smoking Black Irish X Twist in my clay pipes; already to go!
Do you want to go with the Jamestown or the Pollock???
Will smoke a clay over the weekend and let you know my smoking times!

Nah bro load that bugger up and smoke it like you do.
@Ahi Ka I've filled the Jamestown with about 2g of Black Irish X Twist; will this give a good comparison between our smoking times?
I remember you seeing I should be smoking Cannon Plug in the clay pipe or I'm not the Clay King; I'll have to get a block of it for the Sealed Knot events. I could even show it off to the public as it's a period correct tobacco.

I’ll weigh and load my usual clay this weekend and record my smoke time. Yeah 2g is great. If you’re recording times way longer than mine, I’ll get another clay which can hold 2g of tobacco.
@Ahi Ka So I'm going with the Jamestown and 2g of twist. Need to find somewhere out of the wind to smoke it! First time the Jamestown has been smoked since Nantwich!

@mortonbriar I'm going to be wearing the Redcoat when I take part in my England vs New Zealand clay pipe smoke off with @Ahi Ka.
Info links to the pipe and tobacco I'm using:

How did you prep your tobacco bro?
@Ahi Ka Cut it into coins & left it to dry overnight. I might have given it a bit much drying time. I followed the advice on packing the pipe as well.
Another forum member says cut the twist into coins and stack it in the clay. I'm a bit disappointed that my pipe kept going out:-(
I don't feel I'm cut out for a serious smoke-off, what went wrong???
I find the twist hard to light & smoke straight from the pouch; it's a bit on the wet side and a damp squib.
When you fall off the horse you get back on again, as the saying goes, but that would take great courage. Does that mean I'm not the Clay King now???

Yes, also I found the twist hard to lighten, but I think it’s even harder when you stack the coins in your pipe. Rub the coins out even further, as fine as you can. Or maybe cube the coins. Drying out is also a good thing. Experiment and exercise with different techniques. Maybe pack a little bit looser and compress with a tamper to keep the ember in touch with deeper layers of tobacco.

The slow contest masters are exercising a few weeks before contests almost on a daily basis to find out how to prepare the tobacco and finding a breathing technique. Remember Rome wasn’t built on only one day.

I love the flavour of the stacked coins but I also find it hard to keep lit. Not an issue when you’re not in a slow smoke contest. I’d try rubbing those coins into ribbon. And also try with loading less tobacco. You might find less is more
