Did my first round of Bruno today

.5g for 20mins.

It really confirmed for me that I prefer smoking a clay on and off for 5minutes between tasks rather than sitting down for a smoke. Heck I even got bored and started walking around lol
@Ahi Ka Nice photo! I managed 33 & 37min for a clay smoke but you made 0.5g of St Bruno last 20min. A hard one to call a winner as I smoked 2.5g of St Bruno!

From my perspective you cleaned me up as you enjoyed your entire bowl! I’m gonna see if I can get a larger clay and load with 2.5g and then smoke as I would normally 🤙🏼
@Ahi Ka
Clay Cutty Challenge Round 3:
Pipe: Pollock clay cutty
Tobacco: 2.5g St Bruno Ready Rubbed
Start: 0033
End: 0127

Round 4:
Pipe: Pollock clay cutty
Tobacco: 2.5g St Bruno Ready Rubbed
Start: 1502
End: 1544

My best time is the Round 3 (54min); Round 4 my baccy burned to ash after 42min despite managing to coax every the embers back to life before it eventually died...

So @halfdan are you getting more flavour from these longer smokes.......in your clay pipe? I am wondering if the competition has affected your cadence, as in, would you be inclined to smoke slower even if not on having a competition?

@mortonbriar Yes I am getting more flavour from these longer smokes but sometimes it gets a bit ashy further down the bowl. I would be inclined to smoke more slowly as it saves on tobacco but I still think the pipe might go out!

Some nitpicking on clay and sepiolite. From the geological point of view Clay and sepiolite are not to be equated with each other. They are totally different in respect to their properties.

Clay is a unique combination of the clay minerals kaolin, illite, chlorite, sepiolite, and smectite. It’s a heterogeneous mixture of those elements. It needs to be burned at high temperature to keep the hardness and shape like clay pipes, pottery… do.

And clays are much cheaper, I like mine,

Sepiolite is a mineral with a characteristic needle shaped crystal structure. “It is a rare mineral with the chemical composition Mg8[(OH)2| Si6O15]2· (4+8) H2O and thus chemically a water-containing magnesium silicate with additional hydroxide ions. According to its crystal structure, it belongs to the phyllosilicates.”
@UB 40 Nice pipe; how long did your bowl last & did you have to relight???
I'll have to order a tin of Sillem's Musketeer:)

Hi Halfdan, as long as I am not in a competition (and I never did) I always relight my pipes. Also this one. This clay holds enough tobacco to smoke for approximately half an hour or so. It depends a lot on the cut and type of the tobacco.
