If you like strongly scented tobaccos like Condor and 1792, War Horse Bar might be worth a try. I couldn't even begin to guess what it's topped with, but it is most certainly unique. And in my opinion, very enjoyable, but I have a feeling its a love it or hate it kind of deal.

Also if any one knows who actually produces Salty Dogs for Dan Tobacco...........is it Gawith or someone else who presses dense plugs? Enquiring minds would like to know.
These two are great indeed, really great.
I thought that Dan Tobacco produce Salty Dogs as they're one of few manufacturers who have proper presses, but tobaccoreviews says Orlik. Logic would have it that whoever produces flakes they also produce plugs, as they precede the cutting.

I'll second and third this. Salty Dogs is pricey, so it couldn't be a daily smoke for me, but oh boy it's in my top few tobaccos of any category of all time. This is a candidate for Desert Island Tobacco for me.
I didn't realize until I saw all the talk around Salty Dogs here that I have a small sample plug of it I got from a recent order. Can't wait to give it a try now

Unfortunately, it is also hard to get ones hands on. I can get a couple but not most of what is mentioned here. A lot of the SG plugs arent readily avaliable in France along with others. But thats ok..there are still more choices than I need.

I like GLP Jackknife and Triple Play, but when I prep them, I end up running them through a coffee grinder. Love the taste, but I like smoking more than cutting up tobacco bricks.
I don’t know why but I love the process of prepping plugs and flakes, I have a old straight razor and use it to slice plug very finely and often don’t rub it out except the top layer.

@SBC Salty Dogs is pricey because its imported and whoever is importing it jacking the price up.
In Europe it costs about 12 bucks for a plug.

Conversely in Europe GL Pease sells at about 25 bucks a 2 oz tin!
Do you buy from Estervals? I see you’re in France, what’s the pipe tobacco availability like there, do you get the US blends like C&D GLP etc?
Are Gitanes still sold there? They stopped selling it in the Uk years ago and I really miss it.

I’d happily send you GH/SG plugs if you have a hard time getting them. Perhaps we could do a trade, I’m desperate for some Gitanes 😉

As I’ve already stated I’m loving the Salty Dogs atm, Revor is great but tends to flake after it’s aged a little and is a pain in the arse to cut. Simong sent me some McQuaid which is very good, and I have some very old (WWII era) Walnut plug which’ll knock your socks off.
I also like the fairly new Cascadia plugs, I got sent a couple of tins of the whole range when they were released a couple of years ago and the Vertical Limit is good as is Downwind and Campfire, they’re a proper old school style which I have rarely seen in an American plug.
Of course there’s the GH/SG plugs but I prefer the unstopped varieties as I find them a bit heavy handed on the sauce.

@birdog

I dont know how well it would make it through customs...Ive never tried but I bet in a padded envelope it would go through. Yes I get stuff through Estervals. Im not sure what Gitanes is but it doesnt come up on their search. Its French yes? Maybe they sell it in the normal Tobac shops.
