They are entirely different. ON is a high quality tangy red, and VF is a very sweet blend of lighter VAs, with hints of oatmeal and a very, very slight orange or spice. It also has a deceptively significant nicotine level. I went a few years smoking it with my coffee in t5he morning. It has nicotine, but not so much that it puts me to sleep or make me drag. The flavors in VF tend to switch in and out, which keeps it very interesting, IMO.
Interesting! I kinda figured the two blends would have a lot of overlap, and when I compared reviews, praise for VF seemed a little muted compared to that for ON. Guess I’ll be ordering some VF to try next time, too. 😊

We had a member a few years ago, when McClelland was still in biz, that was always singing the praises of VF. I honestly didn't believe it could be very good. People slammed C&D's Virginias all the time. And, yeh, their cased Virginia blends, don't rock my boat at all. But, the guy sent me a few oz of VF, and I tried it with an open mind, and I was very surprised. It is a very good pure uncased Virginia.
It was so good, that I started using that as a goal for growing and making my own Virginias.
But, I will tell ya, once you get a taste for those uncased Virginias, you'll start to taste the casings in other EU blends. I don't hate them, but when I smoke them, I think of them more along the lines of aromatic Virginias. And, I do still smoke Virginias from other makers. I just hold those 2 from C&D at a higher standard.

Typical question, are you speaking tin or bulk, yes yes i know all the same, but wondering if your opinion is based on the bulk or tin.

The hardest part about this challenge is that many of the bulks I'd buy have been sold out for a while. Of the bulk blends currently available on SPC, this is what I'd spend $250 on:
16 ounce box of HH Old Dark Fired - $73.20
16 ounce box of HH Pure Virginia - $73.20
16 ounces of Sutliff 507 C Virginia Slices - $43.29
8 ounce tin of GL Pease Sixpence - $42.50
8 ounces of Lane 1-Q - $21.31
Total: $253.50

Those are some great choices, I've had my eye on a few if those myself. Thank you for the reply! I actually finally cracked my tin of ODF the other day and tried it for the first time and it was incredibly good. I can imagine its even better with some age. 507c has also been reccomended by many here as well.
