Cornbread in milk-- now that's some mountain fixin's there, CE. My mother was from Kentucky and was quite fond of it. I never acquired the taste for it, though. :wink:
Ditto. I just answered a PM about it. I wasn't pleased and was entirely rude.
Now I expect backlash because I liked Cookie Jarvis as a kid.

I've been through long stretches of various favorites, hot and cold. Wheat and corn checks, corn flakes, a few of the sugar-coated. Today it is back to the old Cheerios, just plain oat recipe, and Trader Joe's Bran Flakes, no raisons. When you're hungry and you just don't want to do food prep, and have some cold milk on hand, there you go.
Sausage and biscuits every morning, rain or shine, but yeh, cornbread in milk is awesome! I’ve also got a small orchard with apples, peaches, apricots, blueberries, guava, and muscadine when I get a sweet tooth.
I often hear about this here cornbread...what does it taste like?....(I'm guessing corn)

I don't often eat breakfast, but when I do, I'm a Bacon, eggs & grits (with lots of butter), man.
This summer went to Sons house to dog sit while they went on a cruise with their college son. Got up and made coffee, light up on his patio. Finished , came in for breakfast and all they had in that big pantry was fruity cereal, pop tarts , and some other kinds of instant crap. Got in truck and in Dayton TX they had a little Mexican Resturand, got some tamales, Tocos, and enchiladas, came to his house , wife was up drinking coffee, put big bag on table, told wife we didn't raise him like this.My favorite breakfast is Cornbread, Creral in a box shredded wheat. :

Cornbread is the bread all other breads aspire to be. It is the beautiful golden sunshine that rises up over the horizon of a wheat field, in which the wheat rejoices and sings in worship to the cornbread because the wheat knows the cornbread is superior. Man... fresh out of the oven cut a piece of cornbread in half, slap some butter in the middle and put it back together and it's like a warm melted buttery party in your mouth! Few things are better in this world.... very few things.
Put the heavily oiled cast iron skillet in the over, heat to 375F.
Mix two cups of corn meal
1 1/3 cup of milk
One egg
A drizzle of corn oil
Mix, and pour into heated skillet
Bake for 22 minutes
If you’re up North, you might add some sugar, but down here, DO NOT add sugar. Sugar is for the tea.
That’s corn bread, serve with pinto beans, or collards and hamhocks.

Jay, I'll not top Anthony's praises, :D but corn bread is very simple and good. It's baked in an iron skillet with an oiled bottom that gives the cornbread a nice crispy crust. Not sure about the rest of the South but country folks around here call a skillet of cornbread a "pone" as in " I think I'll make a pone to go with these here field peas". A basic recipe is corn meal, flour, an egg, milk, oil and some sugar. Many variations though. Goes good with cooked greens, black eyed peas, cabbage, red beans and rice and......

Rural Southern Illinois and Northern Indiana we called cornbread with sugar, "Johnnycake." Now don't tell anybody, but, if you put a big spoonful of vanilla ice-cream on cornbread fresh from the oven and let it set a minute before eating, rays of sunshine will shoot out of your behind.
