Try Ashton Goldrush. Citrus and a very faint honey. I think that it is lightly topped but with a very light hand. I could not believe just how much i liked it.

If you're into the citrus notes, Orlik Golden Sliced is a must try. Capstan Blue isn't very citrusy, but it is by far my favorite virginia blend.
I have no idea why everyone says Macbaren no 1 burns hot. I find it extremely well behaved, only not very flavorful and a bit bland.

+1 for Capstan and Gold Slice. 2 of my favorites. I would also recommend Peterson Flake.

I am looking for some advice/suggestions on some straight Virginias to try. I just recently started on Virginias again after learning how to slow down and sip a pipe. (My first experience with Mac Baren's No. 1 Virginia went horribly wrong years ago...my tongue just recovered...) I had a friend give me a pouch of Amphora Virginia Blend and I really enjoyed that. My next one was Royal Yacht. That to me is some wonderful stuff.

I am gravitating to the sweet, citrusy hay type flavors.

Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated!

My two go-to straight Virginias are Capstan Blue and F&T Cut Va Plug.

I’ll always vote for Capstan Blue. It’s a daily driver for me.

Came in to say the same. It's very popular, but is still underrated IMO. It can hang with any of the Gawith flakes in my opinion.

Good choices. The Montgomery is one that does benefit from years in the tin.

KBV - Endless Void - A blend composed of vintage Virginias with at least 20 years of age. It's a one off, and had I known what it would taste like when I smoked it I would have bought every bag of it I could lay my hands on. Deeply rich mahogany and a delicious mustiness. No bite, no sting, just ultra smooth rich Virginia flavors like you wish your other Virginias would offer. Best of all, you don't have to wait 20 years for the tobacco to develop and mature. This reminds me of what premium Virginias were like back in the latter 20th century. If a bag turns up I recommend buying it.
