I prefer the cobs myself! after the year with my Grabow, this cob (which I also spent a year with Alone) gets 99% of all my attention.

So as a new pipe smoker I see a lot of people recommending corn cob pipes for a cheap alternative to see if you like the hobby. I also see them as people having some as a change up of normal briar pipes. Having been smoking nothing but cobs the past months, I smoked a briar for the first time and actually did NOT enjoy it. The flavor was not what I was used to.
My question is, is it just because I’m new to pipe smoking or is it an actual thing to prefer corn cobs all the time? Does preferring the corn cob pipe experience, flavor and price make me a shmuck? I would be interested to hear if there are any people here who mostly smoke corn cobs.
Last thing I will add, I do
Enjoy this as a hobby and not just for utilitarian purposes. But it seems like briar pipes are the “end goal” of every pipe smoker.

Just means you like cobs. Personally I'd feel incomplete without either in my rotation.

The rule of thumb regarding cost and quality is "a day's wage for a pipe".

I once paid $80 CAD for a cob.

Cobs generally have a much better draw, and move not more air than than your garden variety briar, thereby giving you a flavorful smoke.Try briar pipes by Briar works / RC Sands.They are affordable, and have larger diameter drillings than a lot briars. A bit more absorbent than briar too.?

I used to keep cobs around for fishing and chores, but I've had a few briar break-ins recently that too so long that I began to use cobs as a safety blanket. A couple of smokes in, and a cob is the way it's going to be forever.
