On one hand there are countries where helping someone who is dying in the street makes you liable for all of their medical and recovery costs.

On the other hand, one wants to be a good person who helps when someone is in need.

We have heard several arguments including ones about religion, against religion and about the use of firearms.

None of these things make a damn bit of difference when you are in the situation and have to make the decision on instinct and live with it the rest of your life.

I have helped some and paid for it, helped some and felt good about it the rest of my life, and not helped and regretted it. Educate yourself but do what you believe is right and be prepared to accept the consequences...good and bad.

Correct, but that is why I said “depending on the state,” in the opening sentence. Most CCW instructors, and I would say most CCW holders with sense, are going to tell you to only draw and discharge your firearm if your life is in imminent danger, because it could become a huge legal headache, that could mess up your life, even in states with stand your ground laws. Again, look what happened to Zimmerman.
I think Zimmerman was a little different because he instigated the original confrontation and had time to leave the scene and never did. Stand your ground in NC SC and FL only applies if you did not instigate the initial contact. So, for instance, you can't go chasing someone down then shoot them or you can't start a fight or an argument then shoot them, that's when the legal issues start, and I believe Zimmerman actually followed the guy around when he could have just as easily called the police...

I have an infected abscess in my jaw which Will be tended to in the morning tomorrow. I’m currently on some kickin’ painmeds. I apologize if I came across as weird and/or dippy in this thread. I know better than to reply to anything regarding politics, religion, and guns. Something rubbed me wrong with this thread, I don’t know what. During a more or less lucid moment I looked back at my posts and wondered just what in the heck was I getting at.

I love you all. You’re all my pipe brothers. Wish me luck tomorr
Is it syphilis? That can also create abscesses as well as a tendency say strange things..

I salivate when I see a deer, because I see it as food. I treat it with respect, and I don't lord around pictures of it as a trophy, and I give thanks for it...

I have the EXACT SAME reaction!!! Well, not with deer, but with a pizza delivery trucks. I stalk them, wait for the right moment, then go in for the kill (well, the tires anyways). Then when you cut them opening, hot pizza just comes spilling out. Wonderful.

All you wondering if its ok to kill a scumbag? What silliness. It's almost as if none of you have seen a Michael Jackson video. Did you grow up in caves? I'm fairly confident I could win any fight in a dance off and never have to use a gun.

My hands were awash with blood after one day in Mogadishu. Some guys in my unit I believe enjoyed the fighting while a couple didn’t even pull the trigger. I’ll never kill my fellow man again, too many sleepless nights.

I know of soldiers who are saints that never fired a shot; Desmond Doss for one.
Taking a life weighs heavy on a mans soul. And once the deed is done it can not be undone. Everyone copes in their own way but it is never forgotten

Don't just say something, do something! I remember when I was younger, I had just gotten a reporter in the big city. I was getting off work when I noticed the news helicopter was hanging off the roof on side of the building and my co-worker was hanging from it ready to fall 50 stories! Well, I sprang into action and saved her but... Hang on. You know what? This is so embarrassing, I'm confusing my life with the Superman movie again. Sorry guys.

I taught Louisiana CHP classes for several years. I spent a large time going over Louisiana law and then gave 3 stories of various situations that turned bad for the person using his CCW. Even if deemed legal by law; civil suits are always possible and ruin your life.

I believe the same. Knowing only Louisiana law, and Florida's being very similar; Zimmerman had already called police and was told not to follow. He followed Treyvon and thusly created the confrontation because Treyvon was simply walking through the neighborhood. Zimmerman was in the wrong IMO and should've served time according to how i interpret the "Stand your Ground". He alone created the situation that resulted in the death of someone. Had police been allowed to show up and intervene, the results could've been very different.

IBTL.

Just live in a state where you can carry however you want if you're legally allowed to own the gun (that you just bought in the parking lot of a bank).

As for handling situations like those, I'll take my chances with a jury. If it gets dicey and me or my family is involved, I'll end it without thinking twice about eternal damnation or the consequences. Complacency kills. He who hesitates is lost.

The kid was black in the wrong neighborhood. That was it. I totally agree with you.

As some here seem to believe, I can make a thread political simply by stating that a post in it was political. I'm also supposedly too sensitive to political posts.

So, let's see if it works the other way...I hereby state that nothing in this thread is political. Hah! Now it will never be closed!

nnnn I am also never sarcastic so there is that. :ROFLMAO:

Lots of incorrect information about the Zimmerman v Treyvon incident.

You need to read the trial transcripts and especially what Zimmerman’s defense team put out.

I’m not passing judgement on the comments, but study the case instead of cementing your version based on an incompetent media.

His defense team is there to defend their client, not spread the truth. It’s obvious who and what you support here.

in other words why in the hell would you believe everything you hear from a legal defense team? So you must believe OJ was not guilty as well? His defense team said as such.

just happy the last time I had to intervene it turned out to be a large bird. I was walking home and I heard what sounded like a young woman crying a little weird but fucked up.... You know like in a dark corner of a park at night. So I went oh shit I have to investigate and then a huge silhouette of a bird went flying out from that spot. So question anyone know what kind of bird sounds like a crying woman?? Maybe some kind of witch?
Haha Ok, so NZ a “large bird” is another way of saying a fat chick. I totally had the wrong idea of where your story was going.

Also as someone who is removed from gun culture completely, though it is slowly becoming something NZ society will need to address in the future, I want to thank you all for a hilarious, informative and respectful thread.

Now with brobs only a point or two away from being banned for life, who is gonna take one for the team, step up and try and piss off hooiser?

WOW!!!! Talk about making grand absolute bullshit assumptions about me and my opinion.

You have zero clue what my opinion is.

But I’ll help you with this tidbit about me before you further step on your dick.

I’ve helped keep numerous people out of prison. I’ve helped put numerous people in prison. I’ve assisted in getting someone off death row. I’ve assisted in putting someone on death row.

I follow evidence. Maybe, just maybe, you should too.

Read the ALL OF transcripts and look at the evidence in this case. I know you won’t. That’s beneath your ability to freely judge someone.

I just read a transcript of the case. Zimmerman still followed the kid, disobeying the direction of the operator, and confronted the kid. Got his ass worked over and then shot the kid. Just because what he did was not technically illegal doesn’t mean it was the right thing to do.

it all started by Zimmerman thinking he was a superhero. Then instead of taking his ass beating shot the kid.

I never said it was the right thing or the wrong thing. But let me help you. It took two to tango that night.

Both were wrong.

Treyvon was shot at point blank range when he was on top of Zimmerman.

Forensics can be a problem when they don’t fit your narrative.
