I don’t believe in a higher power. I’ve seen too much death and destruction. I believe in Darwin and Karma
I do believe in god, but I can certainly understand, especially in modern times with all the crap going on around the world why someone would question it...but my faith has kept me going all these years and works well for me.

And most of the crap is just the result of man believing that he's accountable to no one but himself, and that he has all the answers, and that he can do anything and solve all problems and bring forth paradise through science and tech. But, anyway... (Rom 8:28 ).

All policemen and soldiers would go to Hell otherwise, and I know of several fighting men who are now saints.

My hands were awash with blood after one day in Mogadishu. Some guys in my unit I believe enjoyed the fighting while a couple didn’t even pull the trigger. I’ll never kill my fellow man again, too many sleepless nights.

I know of soldiers who are saints that never fired a shot; Desmond Doss for one.

Your life has to be in imminent danger.
In most states the threshhold is "fear of ..." among other grounds. Such as "immenent threat to yourself or others." Various states have laws filled with "circumstances" allowing third party shooting a person. Knowing what applies in your state, your situation, etc. is your responsibility. Do not get information regarding the use of deadly force, or CCW regulations off the internet, way to many exceptions and variables. Read the local laws, understand them, take a course if offered, learn from a licensed CCW instructor for your locality and/o, where possible, contact local authorities (This can be iffy in itself depending on how well versed in the laws that individual is).

Correct, but that is why I said “depending on the state,” in the opening sentence. Most CCW instructors, and I would say most CCW holders with sense, are going to tell you to only draw and discharge your firearm if your life is in imminent danger, because it could become a huge legal headache, that could mess up your life, even in states with stand your ground laws. Again, look what happened to Zimmerman.

I salivate when I see a deer, because I see it as food. I treat it with respect, and I don't lord around pictures of it as a trophy, and I give thanks for it... but I don't see it the same way I see another human.

Everyone down here knows why we have high homicide rates in Birmingham. And, it is in Bham, not the entire state. It is because in the heat of the summer, people's trigger get snappy. If you looked at the numbers or where and when murders happen. It is in the peak off summer on the asphalt jungles of run down Bham. Hot ass day, some rich guy cuts you off in traffic, pow. And, that is a fact. This is discussed in the news every summer.
I would theorize it has more to do with hot getting people out of the house. People are kind blood thirst and teste in general.

I feel for you. I could also offer the example of St Louis the Crusader or St Olav of Norway, who did use their weapons, but for noble reasons, and not a desire to sate one's bloodlust.

Not being a smartalec here, nor wanting to argue with you or invalidate your points. Where I'm going with this will be presently seen: Alas, there are some who join armed forces in order to satisfy their bloodlust without the fear of legal retribution. A question that must be asked by each applicant is 'why do I wanna legally carry a weapon: is it to serve God and man, or is it to indulge in legalised murder?' Thing is, this is a question that can be only asked and answered honestly by the applicant in his own soul; no psychological evaluation or screening will provide an answer to this.

You're not in this group, though, so I'll just proceed to what I wanted to say to you : not having shared in your experience, nor knowing whether you've finally attained inner peace, I cannot offer any 'advice'. I can offer a concerned warning, though: be on your guard for one of the favourite weapons of the Evil One is depression, which he many a time fuels through feelings of guilt, often where there is nothing to feel guilty or ashamed of. Don't allow yourself to be taken to that position, for the supervening state is feeling that our deeds are too evil for even God to forgive: this latter state leads invariably to Hell, as the soul's despair of ever attaining Mercy is an effective and definitive closure to that very same Mercy. Beware.

I can also offer prayers that you be at inner peace. Be of good cheer, mate.

I have an infected abscess in my jaw which Will be tended to in the morning tomorrow. I’m currently on some kickin’ painmeds. I apologize if I came across as weird and/or dippy in this thread. I know better than to reply to anything regarding politics, religion, and guns. Something rubbed me wrong with this thread, I don’t know what. During a more or less lucid moment I looked back at my posts and wondered just what in the heck was I getting at.

I love you all. You’re all my pipe brothers. Wish me luck tomorrow.

I really wanted to intervene at the Chicago Pipe Show a few years back when I saw cigrmaster abusing himself (in the biblical sense) in the corner while drooling over bags of overpriced Stonehaven. The whole thing was very unseemly, but I digress.

I cannot believe you just told people that. You promised you would keep it to yourself. Gee what a good friend you are. I am really disappointed in you.

I actually still owe you one as I smoke my Brigham Klondike Gold whenever the mood strikes. 150 or so tins makes that possible. How many Rotary Navy Cut did you finally end up with. I told you it was going the way of the dodo.

The Bible uses the Hebrew word for killing. There are no hairs to split. You kill your brother, for whatever reason, you suffer God’s judgement. The 6th Commandment and Jesus himself are clear on this. And the big man also says Vengeance is his alone. But of course this is only relevant if you are Christian.
There are always hairs to split when interpreting the Bible. Your welcome to your belief, I'll stick with mine as mine came from two reasonably well educated Theologians.
