Missouri Sales Tax on Online Purchases

I knew it was coming but for the first time today I had to pay sales tax on an online purchase of tobacco. I bought some tobacco from Pipes & Cigars and I was charged about 6.35% tax if my math is correct. It turns a 15% discount into about a 9% discount, or the discount covers the sales tax...

    Hearth & Home Louisiana Red

Lately my tastes have been going to Va-Pers so when I read the description of H & H Louisiana Red it sounded like something I'd enjoy. This came in a one pound bag manufactured by Sutliff. Fresh from the bag I got a little taste of vinegar so I jarred it and gave it a couple of weeks. I've...

Looking for other Tangy / Tart / Sour / Vinegar tasting tobacco.

You might try Hearth & Home Louisiana Red (H & H is the brand but it's from Sutliff). It's a Virginia with some Perique. I get a distinct vinegar taste from the Virginia in it. I bought a pound from Pipes & Cigars and they had a bonus offer of a tobacco jar for $10.

    Sutliff Creme Brulee

I mixed up a small amount of Creme Brulee and RLP-6 in a 1:1 ratio. After a week or so it still tasted like the two tobaccos mixed together. After a month they had married and made a decent blend. Not sure it was good enough to make up a big batch, but it was okay. I think the RLP-6 toned...

    Current State of Deeming Regulations?

Lane Ltd. Ready Rubbed and all of the Cult blends except for Blood Red Moon have fallen to deeming. There may be others that I don't know of. While I don't smoke Captain Black Grape, I've noticed on their website and some ads and catalogs that it is not listed. The other Captain Black blends...

    Mason Jar Labels

It's like a pop bottle crate. They were sold by Michael's but my understanding is they have been discontinued. Too bad, they are very handy.

    Mason Jar Labels

For some jars I cut the logo off the pouch. For most I ether print on paper from Cellar Labels or make up my own. Sometimes I will just use a label maker with plain text. I don't glue the labels to the lids. I find they stay in place for the most part. I live in a dusty area so one thing...

    Skipper's Blend--SP Whiskey with Latakia

On the recommendation of a member here I recently tried Smoker's Pride Whiskey. It was pretty good but after trying Pirate Kake I've been on a Latakia kick lately. I was smoking the SP Whiskey and thought about how it would be mixed with Pirate Kake. Not wanting to use the expensive tinned...

    Super Bowl Commercials - WTF??!!

I think the worst was that bouncing QR code. I'm supposed to pull out my phone, get close to the TV, and do a search to see what you're advertising? No. I did like the Soprano's-themed Chevy electric commercial, but only because I was a Sopranos fan and recently re-watched the series. It...

    When Will the Ax Fall?

Just checked P & C website out of curiosity. Cult Conspiracy no longer available. They now carry only Blood Red Moon.

    Trying C & D's Pirate Kake

I recently tried Cornell & Diehl's Pirate Kake for the first time. It's classified as an English blend, containing a robust 75% Latakia. Rounding out the blend is burley and Turkish tobaccos. It comes in cake form and rubs out easily. The moisture level was just about right. I’d shied away...

    Captan Black Grape Discontinued!

The CB Grape would be too new to meet FDA deeming regulations for grandfathering. The company would have to jump through a bunch of regulatory hoops to continue to produce it. They may, if it pays to do so.

    Captan Black Grape Discontinued!

Yes, several times with no problems. They are owned by the same company that owns Pipes & Cigars. I've gotten great deals on some tobacco. Like some auctions, the prices go higher than retail.

    PipesandCigars.com Discount Code

I ran into the same thing. What appears to be happening is if something is on sale it doesn't go toward the total. I checked this by adding a bunch of something that wasn't on sale, and it did show the discount. I removed that item and the discount went away, even though my total was over...

26 State-Level Tobacco Legislative Bills to Watch

I found the text of the bill: a "'novelty lighter' means a mechanical or electrical device typically used for lighting cigarettes, cigars, or pipes that has entertaining audio or visual effects, or that resembles in physical form or function articles commonly recognized as appealing to or...

26 State-Level Tobacco Legislative Bills to Watch

here is a link to the article: 26 State-Level Tobacco Legislative Bills to Watch A lot of them pertain to vaping and cigarettes. Some do pertain to pipe tobacco too. "Indiana: House Bill 1379 prohibits the sale of flavored tobacco products. . . ." Kentucky: House Bill 201 proposes tax...

Anyone Mainly Buy Bulk Tobaccos (or Even Exclusively)?

Try Lane HGL, one of my favorites. It's RLP-6 (basically Captain Black original) with Latakia added.

    Ugly tin warnings....

A lot of the tins in the US seem to be dropping the warning. The tin on the right is from 2021, and the one on the left is older.

What’s Going on with Lane Limited 12 oz Cans?

Captain Black, Sir Walter Raleigh, and Granger have all switched to 7 ounce cans. I suspect it's like so many other products in that it is a way to raise the price without the consumer noticing. For example, coffee used to come in one-pound cans, then they were shrunk to 12 or even 10 ounces...

Looking to Slim Down My Rotation 12/17/21.☕️

I've slowed down on trying new blends, but not stopped. I'm mostly stocking up now on a few that I really like, maybe a half-dozen or so.
