That's a pretty spiffy little pipe!

NPW that just needs a little love

I like the old NPWs. That one does have potential. The cloudy amber stem makes me think it's likely an 1890s pipe. The later stems are more clear. Looks like it should be a good save.

    CPF Best Make

That's a nice old CPF. The stem is ruby Bakelite. Being that it's stamped as an amber, the Bakelite is probably an early replacement. Those amberoid stems were pretty easy to wear out or break. Finding a pipe with a rim cap that isn't banged up is damn near impossible. That one is pretty...

    Barling with 2 part stummel.

Can't find the post. I may be mis-remembering and it may have been about travel pipes. I do remember Sablebrush had the answer to the question. Whatever it was.

    Old Pre-colored JTS Meerschaum

There are people using colored wax these days. They all seem to be some shade of brown though. I haven't bought one so I don't know if they reverse color as the wax is absorbed.

    Do cold pipes always stink?

Pipes stink. It's probably the main drawback of smoking pipes. They could have been smoked yesterday, last week or last month. Take a dozen, put 'em in a closed room, and when you come back in later you will smell them. Just keep them someplace where they won't offend anybody's olfactory...

    Barling with 2 part stummel.

I remember seeing a post about a smooth Barling like that recently. I think the consensus was that during the war when briar supply was short, pipes were made like that. They are not terribly uncommon.

    Old Pre-colored JTS Meerschaum

In the late 19th-early 20th century a lot of meerschaum pipes were sold pre-colored with an "oxblood" stain and sealed. The glossy finish is indicative of that. It almost has a ceramic look. Then as the pipe was smoked, it would actually soak up some of the stain and it would lighten from the...

    Old Pre-colored JTS Meerschaum

This old timer was listed as a BIN on eBay. It had the Make Offer function open so I did. It was an easy meet in the middle deal. The telltale sunset coloring of a lightly used pre-colored old meerschaum pulled me in. The case label says: JTS Best Make". Seems like it might be a store rebranded...

Interesting Parker Super Briar Bark find, info requested.

That inner rim is a deal breaker for me. I'll have to pass.

help identify strange pipe with metal bowl insert

The integral molded threads and chunky bit make me think 1920s. I've looked through all the pipe ads I've copied, I got nuthin'.

    I enjoy a good Parker. I'm interested.

Please help identify these 3 pipes

The carved pipe looks like a nice circa 1890s meerschaum with an amber type stem and a sterling band. Pretty sweet! The bulldog looks like it might be from slightly later. Maybe 1910. Could be a bit earlier or later. Also very nice! I can't see the calabash very well. If it has an amber...

Claw Pipe Restoration / Clean Up

Your pipe isn't particularly old, rare or valuable. But it looks good and you did a nice job on it. Smoke away!

Your pic is a little blurry, but it looks like an underlined 0 to me too. Even so, a 1950 patent Parker is still a really nice desirable pipe.

    Parker Super Briarbark Patent 1950

It's the old time pipe shops I think. A fellow would bring in his pipes for some TLC and someone would give them a good thrashing on the buffer in the back room. Collectability just wasn't a consideration. Or maybe there wasn't much training on using the buffer.

CPF Woodstock Alpha Delta Phi 1908

I did polish it. Being hardly used though, it didn't need much. It was probably stuck in a drawer where it didn't get enough light to oxidize. Plus, it has the straight profile and a chunky bit with the round hole. And it's old style hard rubber. Seems right for the period. I'm pretty taken...
