    Filter Adapter direction

Great, thanks Orley. I smoked it once facing the other direction--guy was really bouncing around in there.

    Filter Adapter direction

It's weird, I got these and some Vauen adapters through 4noggins. They have a rubber-band like bump either near the end or the middle of the adapter. You have to force the rubber-band end into the stem, otherwise it isn't thick enough to hold still in the stem. Go figure.

    Filter Adapter direction

Hey All, Just to make sure I've got it right: the end with the bump goes into the stem so it doesn't slide around in the pipe, correct? Thanks, Dave

    Tongue Burn on nosewarmer

Yes, indeed that is a Rick Black. And I think one of the contributing factors is the very wide draw--makes lighting easy, but you have to be careful!

Is My Pipe Stem Upside Down?

Just got my response from the maker: "Normally there is one position where the stem and shank meet smoothly since I hand fit them. If on your pipes they fit either way, I am surprised. Just a matter of luck more than my skill."

Is My Pipe Stem Upside Down?

What about cases where the stem is flush/even with the shank? Aren't the pipes constructed/sanded with the stems in a given direction so that they'd line up perfectly?

Is My Pipe Stem Upside Down?

Thanks guys. I guess I'll try to keep track of which side I've been smoking by looking at the teeth marks, but it sounds like switching back and forth makes no difference. Unless you ask Cosmic... :)

Is My Pipe Stem Upside Down?

So no problem with switching back and forth? And just to be clear, there is no way to really tell which side was intended as the "top" or "bottom," right?

Is My Pipe Stem Upside Down?

    Lol, clearly we're making progress.

Is My Pipe Stem Upside Down?

Sorry to reopen this--just a little bit obsessive I guess :) I've got a number of cob mods with short tapered stems and half the time I forget which side of the stem was the top on the previous smoke. I assume there's no ill effect smoking with the stem one way and then smoking the next time...

    Morta Finish

Ha, yeah--the blasted will be coming early next year. That will be a commission piece!

    Morta Finish

1coyote, here are a few more pics of the finished product: It's a pretty small piece but a good smoker. I don't think I've quite mastered packing it correctly, so I'm having a bit of trouble keeping things lit, but the drilling is on point and has allowed for some nice puffs of Frog's Cellar...

    Shank expansion question

I just called up the maker too. Seems the draught hole is intentionally smaller than the shaft anyway. And between the two there's a briar insert, which is the wall I must have been hitting. I'm not sure how pretty it looks in there, but the airflow seems to be much improved. He recommended...

    Shank expansion question

I guess this really isn't an exact science anyway. Just keep tinkering until you get it to perform the way you want? :)

    Shank expansion question

Cool--I can already pass a pipe cleaner all the way through it--I just feel it getting a bit tighter as I reach the bowl. Perhaps the shank was originally drilled too narrow in the first place. Thanks for the advice.

    Shank expansion question

The airflow seems to already have improved quite a bit just by expanding the shank and not getting all the way to the bowl. I'm just wondering whether most of you would take the final step and go all the way to the bowl...

    Shank expansion question

I'm working on expanding the hole in the shank of a modified cob pipe. The shank is fairly long and made of bamboo. I've been slowly working with a rat tail and chainsaw file to open up the shank, but I don't think my tools are long enough to make it to where the shank meets the original cob...

    Morta Finish

Sure, happy to update once I give it a few smokes. Am I able to link to the seller's site on here? Not sure if you're allowed to promote 3rd parties on here.

    Morta Finish

1coyote, as promised here is a pic of the Morta cigar. I haven't received it yet--this pic comes directly from the maker, so the lighting might be a bit off from natural. Best, Dave

    Morta Finish

Thanks--would I be better off with Halcyon II?
