    Scratched Up My Tamper

EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9) I somehow got it in my thick skull that the lower half of this tamper was screw-off, and after failing to do so by hand attempted with pliers. The rest, as you can see, is history. Any advice or product recommendations for taking a scratch out of...

    Replacement Cumberland Stem

Hey All, do you know how much I ought to expect to pay for a replacement stem made out of cumberland? I'm guessing something like $50 is out of the question? Thanks, Dave

    Dunhill Controversy

Thanks for the response. It seemed like a pretty dry smoke to me-I suppose you can never tell if it can be even dryer.

    Dunhill Controversy

Hi All, Reopening an old one here. It seems to be the consensus that, at least for smoking qualities, the keyhole method is the best way to drill a bent pipe. Is there anything intrinsically bad about the ramp method? Does it definitely lead to moisture collection? I just received a Calabash...

Halloween Tobacco Blends (Blenders Pay Attention)

Would it be dangerous to simply add some pumpkin spice to a tobacco and smoke it? Thanks!

    Does Staining Prevent Darkening?

Hi All, I understand that bare / virgin pipes darken over time, but does staining/finishing a pipe prevent this from happening? Does it just slow it down? Thank you! David

Bent Pipe Draught Hole / Drilling Question

Thanks for the responses. Nevada, out of curiosity, why are you surprised a cleaner doesn't pass?

Bent Pipe Draught Hole / Drilling Question

Yeah, I've tried bending the pipe cleaner and twisting at the end--no luck. Just tends to end up with me pressing up and scratching the wood under the draught hole. Thanks though.

Bent Pipe Draught Hole / Drilling Question

The other concern I have is since I've been trying to get the pipe cleaner to pass, it looks like I've chipped away just a little at the wood just below the draught hole (you can see in the lighter portion inside the mortise). I'm hoping I haven't done any damage here?

Bent Pipe Draught Hole / Drilling Question

Ah, very sorry about that. Photobucket used to work I thought. Anyway, here's the pic of the pipe and here's the diagram that I thought it might be based off of

Bent Pipe Draught Hole / Drilling Question

Hi All, recently picked up a horn shaped Stanwell. Seems to smoke great, but I've been having trouble passing a pipe cleaner. When I remove the stem, I see this little notch I thought it might be drilled the same way as in the below diagram, but isn't the point of that design to facilitate...

Finish Coming Off / Not Set

I got in touch with the maker of Paragon Wax who said that this should never happen and has never experienced this issue. He offered to strip and refinish the pipe himself. If his stain doesn't bleed, I guess that finally puts this question to rest.

Finish Coming Off / Not Set

That makes sense zack24, thanks. The seller offered to fix or replace it, but I wonder if this is even necessary since the issue seems to be disappearing with more runs of the Paragon wax. I guess unless the maker changes his finishing process, the same thing is likely to happen on all of his...

Finish Coming Off / Not Set

Hi All, I've read a few different threads about this and haven't quite been able to find a definitive answer. I got a new smooth pipe the other day with orange and brown contrast staining. I applied my first coat of Paragon Wax last night and when I went to buff it off, some of the orange...

    Blending tobaccos status

Hi All, Does anyone know if blending tobaccos - eg. blending latakia are affected by the impending regulations? Thanks!

    Fixing a burnt stem

Hi All, I decided to try my hand at pulling some dents out of a few of my stems by applying heat to them (heat gun, lighter). Good news, the dents came out :) Bad news, on on of the stems, by the lip, the rubber began to melt/bubble, and on another stem, though the appearance didn't change at...
