    Christmas Cheer 2003 for $200

Everything is relative and there is no doubt that there are terrific pleasures to be had in what is currently available. It does however show how certain historical circumstances can lead to good things disappearing. I live in a major city and when people see me smoking a pipe they are amazed...

    Christmas Cheer 2003 for $200

I do however recall McClellands always having a very good reputation. I think I started smoking pipe around 2014. Not positive date. In fact, when I started, McClelland tobaccos were all that I bought due to their reputation.

    Christmas Cheer 2003 for $200

I think it’s a matter of when they closed doors and whether it coincided with one’s pipe journey regarding appreciating Virginias over English. I notice that many people go through the stages of : Aromatic>Balkan>English>Vapers>VAs. That’s what happened with me. It just so happened I “matured”...

    Christmas Cheer 2003 for $200

That was/is EXACTLY my situation. On the positive side, I am learning to enjoy the VAs and Vapers that currently exist. Just ordered some Viprati. I’ve found that Opening Night is excellent with a few years on it. I’m really coming to appreciate staples like Escudo and Elizabethan Mixture...

    Christmas Cheer 2003 for $200

What’s the deal with those red and orange VAs that somebody grew for McClellands ? Are they just not growing them anymore ? And why didn’t McClellands sell somebody their secret recipes for processing ? Finally, where do I post if I’m looking for vintage tins ? Is there special section of the...

    Christmas Cheer 2003 for $200

Just curious where are best places to buy it reasonably (as in less than $200 a 100g tin) ??

    Christmas Cheer 2003 for $200

It’s not something I would ever do regularly, but I look at it like a fine bottle of wine. A rare treat.

    Christmas Cheer 2003 for $200

I just pulled the trigger on a 100g tin of Christmas Cheer 2003 for 200 clams. I just couldn’t resist. I need to see what McClelland VAs we’re all about. The funny thing is that years ago when I started my pipe journey, I was too green to understand the beauty of VAs. I even bought some...

    Opinion about a YouTuber

The bearded Kentucky man. He should just appreciate his good fortune. He seems to have a bottomless budget for pipes. Maybe somewhere along the line he’ll learn that Jesus’ message was love. Not selfishness.

    Opinion about a YouTuber

You want to have a pipe channel, tell me about pipes, not what was so wonderful about slavery-era southern plantations.

    Opinion about a YouTuber

At a totally right-wing racist evangelical Pat Robertson college from what I’m told.

    Virginia taste

Yes. I’m seeing that to be true. Also I find that the bottom third is much more flavorful, especially if I’ve let the pipe sit and cool. I sense that I’m getting all of those oils you mention.

    Peterson's Elizabethan Blend?

I noticed something interesting with Virginias, which is that if I put down the pipe and let it cool, then return to it later, I’m getting more flavor. I notice that the last third of the bowl is really giving off flavor more than the first two thirds; Whereas English blends reveal their flavor...

    Peterson's Elizabethan Blend?

I just smoked second bowl and I am getting it better. I think one needs to choose the right pipe. Also, I think you have to slow down and clear your palate of English first. I am also starting to dedicate pipes to Virginias.

    Peterson's Elizabethan Blend?

What am I missing ? I hear people talk about Elizabethan as being their number one tobacco. I can barely taste anything. It’s like a parched mouth and cardboard. I’m similarly baffled by Escudo. But at least with Escudo there is some complexity. Is it just that my taste buds are dead from...

    Morning or Nights

Wow ! Just had one of those amazing smokes with Quiet Nights in a Savinelli Tundra Brandy. Such an amazing and subtle and balanced blend. Can any other Pease blend be so masterful ?!

Moving From English Blends to Pure Virginias

Yes, it’s taken me a good number of years and leaving/returning to pipe smoking to finally understand what people appreciate in Virginias. My palate is changing and I am now looking for different more subtle things. I did the usual new piper thing: I started with original Frog Morton and...
