Perfume/Incense Note : from Latakia or Orientals

Try Black House or 759 Match (they are the same thing). I have since moved on to preferring Quiet Nights as having less of a perfume note while still having an appealing incense that is LESS sweet and cloying. As others have said about both Quiet Nights and Gaslight, they replace the sweetness...

Perfume/Incense Note : from Latakia or Orientals

I suppose this is the art of blending. Similar to fragrances.

Perfume/Incense Note : from Latakia or Orientals

Latakia might be the edgy/smoky part with Orientals adding the sweet, sour, and floral.

Perfume/Incense Note : from Latakia or Orientals

Yes … it might indeed be a combinatory thing.

Perfume/Incense Note : from Latakia or Orientals

I believe from all I’m reading it’s the Orientals, Turkish, Izmir, Macedonian, etc.

Perfume/Incense Note : from Latakia or Orientals

Someone wrote : “I've experience the incense thing most so far in glp Lagonda, glp Quiet Nights, Black House, Lane Crown Achievement, Three Oaks Syrian(slightly different there), etc.” But for me Quiet Nights is lacking the more perfumey incense that Black House has.

Perfume/Incense Note : from Latakia or Orientals

Even mentions Black House : “Try GLP's Charing Cross, H&H Black House and Presbyterian for a deep incense flavor as well. The first two I consider Balkans, Presbyterian is an Oriental laden English.”

Perfume/Incense Note : from Latakia or Orientals

Perfume/Incense Note : from Latakia or Orientals

I found this on one of other threads … “To me, the incense is the predominance of orientals in the blend over Virginians. Jitterbug sent me some of his homegrown Turkish and it was exactly like an incense that could be bought at a head shop. So, to me that incense-like aroma is what separates a...

Perfume/Incense Note : from Latakia or Orientals

I’m having less of a tolerance for a very perfumey / incense note in blends. It’s funny because at one point it was what I wanted. I’m now finding it kind of cloying and headache-inducing. Can somebody tell me if it is the Oriental leaf that is doing this ? Here’s an example : I was in love with...

    Too Hot & Goes Out

I have never had my pipe get so hot that I can’t hold it.

    Too Hot & Goes Out

I’ve got a momentary case of bad smoke/pipe hot/worried about damage OCD syndrome. Tonight I smoked a second bowl in a row (only half full) in my new Geppetto pipe. It’s been raining so pretty humid. In any case, after lighting up the second bowl I started worrying about not having let my pipe...

    Question about mixing tobaccos.

Just added some Elizabethan Mixture on top of some remaining C&D Opening Night (which has no perique) and the resulting complexity was great. The perique in the Elizabethan really brought out the flavor of the two Virginias in ON.

Seattle Pipe Club - Plum Pudding Special Reserve Review

I’ve heard people say the same about MR, that they prefer the original. Could it be that the reserve is smoothing things out to the point where it’s losing touch with the blends original intent ?

Seattle Pipe Club - Mississippi River Special Reserve Review

I’m confused about all these different versions. MR has I believe four : original; bourbon aged; special reserve; and finally special reserve flake. I currently have the last one. It’s interesting. Almost too smooth. Recollects Penzance. Some have said they prefer the original. I don’t want to...

    Pipe Stem Replacement

Does making a new stem require resanding and refinishing the original pipe shank ?
