    Tobacco substitutes

From Emerson's Eulogy of Thoreau. He was rather interested in Native lore, but whether the lily-stems were related to that or no, I cannot guess.

Another Look At Beginning The Art Of Pipe Smoking

I just walked into a B&M, bought a Peterson and the most popular bulk aro in the house (at the recommendation of the tobacconist), which I think might possibly be Lane BCA, and figured it out. My first few smokes weren't great, but here's the thing--I was over a hundred dollars in (plus an hour...

    Into the woods!

Love klean kanteens, have two of them. "In the woods, we return to reason and faith." -Emerson I think of that often in my walks.

My favorite children's book has always been The Wind in the Willows--another great pipe smoking book.

    Sherlock

See, and I do consider Brett to be the best Holmes we've ever seen. The reason I rated them third for the pair is because of Brett's two co-stars--David Burke fell into the old trap of playing Watson dumb, and Hardwicke--well, Hardwicke, as I said, did rather nicely. But he and Brett never...

    Sherlock

Been looking forward to this. These two have some of the best onscreen chemistry of any Holmes pairing I've ever seen, save RDJ and Jude Law. Brett and Hardwicke do rather nicely in this regard as well.

What do you snack when you smoke?

I was shocked to discover how delicious a simple chocolate can be after a smoke. I don't generally eat anything during.

Johnny Walker Double Black - A New, Favorite Blended Scotch

Been looking for it around here but haven't found any. I like Black and I like Laphroaig, I'm sure I'll like this--but I daresay Johnnyreb has a rather good point.

Show Us Your Cold Weather Pipe Smoking Attire

Just picked it up from the cleaners, ready for another winter. A little backstory; About two years ago in the fall I decided I wanted a long coat for winter. Iowa is bitter cold in the winter, as well as windy and dry, and I wanted as much protection as possible. I also don't like sitting on a...

Recommend A Blend- Similar To FM On The Town

He means to say On the Town, of course--just clarifying!

Could I Be An Oriental Fan? After All This Time?

You know, I was wondering where you had gone off to! I really dislike EMP. Never could get it to work for me, and I'm not sure why--it just had this acrid sourness to it. On the Town will be in my next order. Haven't met a Frog I didn't like yet.

    Local pipe store

I know what you mean. There's nothing in my town--I'm driving to Sioux Falls or Omaha if I want to see the inside of a shop. I like the Omaha zoo, so I do get down there every once in a while.

    Local pipe store

Now if you don't mind a trip, it looks like there's a more promising B&M in Lincoln--Cliff's Smoke Shop. Haven't been so can't comment, but their website looks very intriguing. I'm in Sioux City so that's a bit of a drive for me.

    Local pipe store

I've been to S. G. Roi in the Old Market, but honestly, it's the same everywhere around here--large humidor, few pipes. Nevertheless, I like to support these places when I can. That being said, S. G. Roi did have more than twenty, and there seemed to be an ok range cost-wise. I wanted to get my...

    Help Inspire My Next Pipe

That tomato could be a real beauty if you capture the essence of 'refulgence-verging-on-putrefaction'. And the green stem would just 'make' it. Brilliant!

    What's your occupation?

Nice pic, farmer! I like mountains, I like forests, I like the sea--I love Midwestern skies over a field of green and gold. That's home.
