Show Us Your Mastro Geppetto & Ser Jacopo Pipes

Man, beautiful pipes. I especially love the black finish and white stem on the billiard. I will be looking for a similar one.

How Do You Pick Your Next Smoke?

As far as whether or not to open another tin, it is a tough decision. But eventually I came to the conclusion that tobacco ages best in a mason jar and it allows easy access. I remove the tin label with a heat gun and put in on the jar with part of the label on the lid so it looks good on the...

    Iwan Ries in ‘Chicago Magazine’

Anyone here who has not yet read that Chicago Magazine article should give it a go. I sent it to several of my pipe maker buddies and they all loved it.

    Per Georg Jensen Harbour Dreams

Great blend. I thought Brothers in Arms would be my favorite, but I just bought more tins of Harbour Dreams.

How Hard is it to Burnout a Pipe?

I have never had a pipe burn thru the bowl in over 30 years. I think the most important thing is to buy good quality pipes with seasoned briar. I assume if you’re smoking a basket pipe hot for the first 3-4 smokes before a cake builds up it can happen. Some “rim burn” is often unavoidable if you...

How Do You Pick Your Next Smoke?

I love my Perique and Latakia blends and they dominate my rotation , although lately I have been smoking a lot of cube cut burley tins. One of the best things about pipe smoking is the incredible variety available nowadays. Despite the naysayers, American pipe smokers are in a Golden Age of...

How Do You Organize Your Tobacco Cellar?

I have an old inventory on a Word.doc, but stopped updating it a while ago. I generally organize by maker, not type of tobacco.

    Iwan Ries in ‘Chicago Magazine’

I have visited Iwan Ries several times, and its 2d floor smoking lounge with the elevated train rumbling past the windows should be on any pipe aficionado‘s bucket list. Thanks for sharing this article.

***What Are You Smoking, October 2025?***

Enjoying the last of the Old Ironsides on the front porch after walking the Doberman. Smoking an LCS Briars London Calling with Simon ring blast volcano with a pearl stem. This pipe is one of a three pipe set Simon made for me a while ago.

Big Pipe Meet-Up This Saturday 9/27/25 Near Wheeling, WV

The C&D reps had them at the Richmond show and area rep brought a few to Moundsville. I expect they will be on line at SP.com at some point.

Big Pipe Meet-Up This Saturday 9/27/25 Near Wheeling, WV

Yes, indeed you do. Tyler has been selling enough C&D tins to be able to get a nice allotment of every new small batch for his brick and mortar.

    Cleaning a Rusticated Rim?

I use Kramer’s Best Antique Improver or Murphy’s Oil Soap applied with a soft toot brush with decent success. Both are safe for wood. I have not tried Carbon-Off! some recommended here because it is labeled for metal only.

    First Purchase From Pipes2Smoke

I make an effort to patronize the sponsors of this website. This was my first pipe purchased from Pipes2Smoke in Canada. The service was excellent, and the delivery was prompt. Maxim picked up any tariffs. This is a Kolyo Demirev 2-knuckle bamboo billiard which came with an artisan leather bag...

Big Pipe Meet-Up This Saturday 9/27/25 Near Wheeling, WV

It was a great meet-up with about 30 attendees. Tyler set up tables under a tent on the front sidewalk, and all three rooms inside with leather chairs were at capacity. Joe from Laudisi was there answering questions and gave me a C&D t-shirt. I picked up several tins including Gawith’s Bothy...

    Smoking Jacket, Anyone?

I read an article a few years ago that the real purpose of a smoking jacket was to absorb all the tobacco smell so that your clothes did not smell badly for your significant other later that evening.

    Smoking Jacket, Anyone?

This is the kind of ad that pops up on your Instagram feed when you follow too many artisan pipe makers 😑
