Irish Army With Acrylic Fishtail Stem

I just received (from SP) my first acrylic army mount. A 406 with straight stem. I've owned a number of army mount vulcanite p-lips but they were never particularly comfortable in my mouth. This new one is excellent and comfortable and I can avoid the dreaded oxidization. The fishtail really...

Do Any Types Of Leaf Deteriorate With Aging?

I've always wondered about this, but as I smoke VA's 99% of the time, it hasn't been an issue.

    Al Baier pipes

Al Baier was an accomplished sculpter and pipe maker from Vermont. I visited his shop in 1996 week and bought two pipes from him. He also owned Primo Pipe at the time and provided product for aspiring pipe makers. He was best known for figurative pipes that were exquisite. Do any of the...

    Swan Vestas?

I like to use those small matches that come in cubes from the grocery store, except when I'm reading and then it is a Bic. Could be just nostalgia as my grandfather used matches and I enjoyed the rattling sound in his pocket. Nice soft flame.

    Copper Roofing Nail Tampers

I bought a pound of these online. I dull the points with a file and put the shank in my drill chuck and make smaller ones with a file. That way I have an assortment for smaller bowls and very tapered dublins. Not fancy but practical and you always have enough if you lose them.

    My Hot Meer

EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9) I have only one meer that was gifted to me probably 25 years ago. It's an SMS lattice carved billiard and it always smokes hot. I'm a slow sipper of my va's and I don't have this problem with my briars and cobs. I've heard everyone say...

    New Member to Junior Member?

EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9) I’m new here and I just got jumped to junior member. As old as I am I should be an Ancient member! I don’t believe in seniority and never will. Live is a meritocracy! Please correct this ASAP!

Anyone from Northern Ireland/North of Ireland?

I’ve spent some time over there as my mother was a WW2 war bride from Fermanagh. Love the place and the people. Nothing like the smell of a coal fire and a bowl of Condor. As my grandfather would say: “ that’ll do rightly”

I’m way too new here to have an opinion but would someone tune me in to the pros and cons of varying levels of enthusiasm among members?

Do You Smoke Primarily with Nose or Mouth or Both?

EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9) While I would guess that most would say both, I tend to enjoy my va flakes with my nose. The mouth taste of a blend is not very important so long it isn’t outright offensive. The wisps and tendrils off the bowl are what I’m after. This could...
