Glad this system is working out for you Phil!

    Smoking Room Ventilation

The rack of fans is not in the window in these photo's. But you can see the insulation tape, and you can see the foil tape between the insulation tape and the rack of fans.

    Smoking Room Ventilation

Update! For those of you wanting to replicate this, there is a new twist/tip as follows: I mentioned that you need to apply a thick insulation tape around the edge of the rack of fans to take up slight gaps on the ends, and to get a good seal on the top and bottom and a nice cushion to close...

Can We Talk About Water Glass (Sodium Silicate)?

I have some hardwood (oak) ash I can use, but there is also a cigar lounge in town that I could get some cigar ash from. I think either will work, as they have worked for others for many years.

Can We Talk About Water Glass (Sodium Silicate)?

Glad this has generated some healthy conversation. To be clear, I was not intending to use this as a bowl coating, but rather to make a pipe mud with for bowl repair on a spot of initial burnout. I've never had a briar burnout yet, but I have a Churchwarden my daughter bought me at the...

    Smoking Room Ventilation

We've had 8 weeks over 100 degrees, and 2 weeks over 104 degrees and high humidity. Hasn't stopped me one bit. The rack of fans comes in and out of the window very easily. I set it up. Smoke. Give it a bit to air out the room, then pull the rack out of the window and shut it. The fact you have a...

Can We Talk About Water Glass (Sodium Silicate)?

Interesting. I'm a Geologist (retired) as well. I was thinking along the same lines. I actually have a small jar of ash from Mount St. Helens. I was sailing on a coastwise tanker on the West coast and we were going up the Colombia river when the eruption started. We were due for a two week stay...

    That Old School Aroma

The old school aroma I remember best is the smell of a worksheet or test the teacher handed out that was fresh off the mimeograph machine. Man I loved that smell!

Better Call Saul Better Be Good.

No reason needed to watch BB again. It's such a great series. I watch the whole series every few years, just because of the quality ... and I have it on DVD.

Better Call Saul Better Be Good.

I loved BCS. I only just got to see the last season on Netflix a few weeks ago. IMO it gets better and better as the seasons progress. Many of the same characters are in it as BB. I think you'll like it.

    Pipe Sighting at the Movies

I watched Oppenheimer on IMAX last tuesday. Unfortunately the music and sound effects volume was so loud I had to put my fingers in my ears, then take them out when talking was involved. It was very distracting, and pissed me off. With regard to Oppenheimer and pipes, you saw him several times...

How to store small spun cut coins intact?

That was the whole problem. I've never had flakes or coins come loose in these small wide mouth jars. You don't have to tip the jar, or shake it around to get what you need out. Just reach in with a few fingers and pull out what you need.

These Mason Ball jars work perfect for most any tin of flake tobacco, including coins.
