    Making Clay Pipes

I wish someone would make a clay about a Dunhill size 5 with thick walls. Tired of tiny, thin walled clays. If you're going to be smoking it, why not make it comfortable to hold to begin with.

    This Month's Gratuitous Dog Pictures

Don't have one this month, but here's Dutch with his silly chicken. I got him at an animal rescue center 7 years ago. He used to sit on top of his dog house at the center and watch people come and go. He was adopted twice, but returned because he sheds so much. I liked him immediately.

    Becker Pipes.new carver, same value?

I wasn't aware that Grenci taught the Beckers about pipe making. Thanks tbradsim1 for the info. I think I have a Grenci pipe around here somewhere. A Becker too.

    Everything changes eventually, but...

Yeah I hear you. But think about it. Did those old timers that were here before us have to go through this constant search for their blend of choice? I had to do that when I first started. Must have gone through several hundred blends before i found one that I wanted to stick with. I would...

    Everything changes eventually, but...

Everything changes eventually. I understand that. That's eventually. But dammit (or is that damnit?), I wish they would leave my tobacco alone. It should be criminal to alter a tobacco blend within, say 50 years, at least . If you can't, then don't even start making it. I mean, we should all...

    Help on 3 new estates

They look good to me. I do think the top one has an amber stem. Beautifully colored bowl as well. The bottom one looks to be a block meerschaum that has been well smoked. The older meerschaum pipes were dipped in whale oil, so they colored up a lot better than the ones made today. I think you...

What Happened To "What Are You Reading"

Huntertrw, what's weird is that I'm not an attorney. Lol. And blowhard, I'll check that one out. Thanks.

What Happened To "What Are You Reading"

Jessicac, I always found torts and contract law fascinating. But then I also enjoy tax law. I know. Weird.

What Happened To "What Are You Reading"

Could be a lack of interest, but I think it's an interesting topic. I always have a book or two going. I got a kindle for Christmas, and am closing in on 40 books since then. I still buy hardback books too. Two that I am reading right now are Jerry Apps "Old Farm, A History", and "Seasons on...

    Interesting Old Pipe-Tobacco Advertisements

These are great. I love reading these old adds. It's amazing that pipe tobacco companies were able to get away with not saying what tobaccos were in their blends for so long. They all said their blends were " cool burning, mild, delightful aroma, distinctive taste, etc. etc. Only a few added...

Did Comoy's Make Disney World Pipes?

I was just browsing Walt Disney World pipes and found where Brian Levine sold a Disney pipe through Ebay in April this year, to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In the description he states that the pipe dated to 1971-1984. Maybe that's the time frame most of these pipes were...

Did Comoy's Make Disney World Pipes?

I've never been to Disney World or Disneyland, but I have a cherrywood pipe stamped by them. They must have had quite a variety of pipes.

    Lazy Pre-Summer Evening

You bring back memories of those few and far between cool days of summer in the southwest. I used to own a small ranch across from Terlingua Texas. After a week or so of heavy heat, you would get a day or two of moderate weather. Getting outside and enjoying it was a wonderful time to be alive...

    G. Huybrecht Pipes as Smokers?

In the early 1990's I corresponded with G. Huybrecht by mail asking for information about their pipes. They were very nice and sent me information and prices. Unfortunately I never bought one. I really like the shape and size of that pipe.

An Amazing And Generous Gift From SSJones aka Al The Evergood!

mr.lowercase, you are indeed very fortunate to have one of Tom's TPSE publications. They are a fantastic read. Jammed packed with all sorts of pipe info. and lore. Indeed Tom Dunn was an incredible man. I was a member of the coterie for the last 6 or 7 years of it's existence. It was a sad day...

    Feedback on Vauen Pipes

I have only one Vauen. I wrote something on it a while ago, but can't remember when. It is just a fantastic smoking pipe. I tried using it with the filter, but find I like it best without one. It has a very shiny finish. It looks almost like it's been varnished, but it has never smoked hot or...

    Best pipe shape for.......

I honestly can't detect a difference in pipe shape with tobacco type smoked. To me it all taste the same regardless of pipe shape. Neither am I bothered by smoking aromatics and english in the same pipe. I may be fortunate to have such dulled taste buds. The only flavor that I can detect that...
