    Soaking a pipe?

I completely submerge estate pipes in 99.9% isopropyl alcohol when I want to re-stain them.

Why does Mcclellands smell like ketchup?

From what I understand, vinegar is used as a mold-inhibitor by McClellands, giving *some of* their blends that characteristic ketchup aroma. To my olfactory senses, it just means I'm in for some quality tobacco.

    Tasting the tobacco???

I wrote a blog post some time back that may help isolate some of the flavours you are tasting. I am a firm believer that half the problem is simply not being able to identify a subtle nuance due to a lack of rhetoric. How many times have you read a review that says "the flavour is so familiar...

What do YOU miscriates do in those moments of greavous gurgling?

Grandi's = Mario Grandi (pipe mfg.) As others have already said, my method is dry the hell out of your tobacco, and if the gurgles pop up, gently blow the moisture back onto the cherry. If they still persist, I reach for a pipe-cleaner.

VA that has a high sugar content? need help

Sounds like a blend highlighting bright Red Va's is what your looking for. I scratch that itch with Seattle Pipe Club Mississippi River or Scotty's Old Red, both available from Pipes&Cigars. Sorry I didn't link anything, but I'm on my phone and that seems like a lot of work...

What is the ingredient in pipe tobacco and cigars... that causes the dizziness?

Hey! You're smoking Latakia! Welcome to the dark side (finally!)...told you it would happen! :P Keeping a snack handy can help the queasies too.

One of Our Fine Members had a Hart Attack

Wishing you a speedy recovery Bob; my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. Rest up and get well!

Are there any sample sites out there?

Only in America... No, really. Canadians don't qualify for this one. Sterling is the only free sample I know of that comes north of the 49th.

    Blues Brothers

I would be inclined to agree with you on all those counts, haunted - I just included 'em because, hey, someone likes them. No accounting for taste. You should check out Rick Mercer; his content is a little more esoteric (read: Canadian), but his humour is awesome...similar deadpan style to Norm...

Do You Have Any Christmas Traditions?

In my family, its tradition that on Christmas Eve, everyone gets to open a single gift (usually earmarked for the day). The catch is that the Dec. 24th gift always contains PJ's for the kids, robes for the adults, and, of course, dainty lingerie for my wife. :D

    Cleaning Natural Finishes

Something about the natural colouring of briar just screams beauty to me, or at least I assume it does, as around 60% of my stable is made up of "Natural Finishes". Over time, ash, oils, and general grime from my hands have formed a dirty looking patina on the outside of the bowl. Any tips for...

Straight Poker I Carved And Some New Entries

Maurizio, man, you turn some truly amazing work. I've always disliked the look of pokers, but thats a real work of art you have created. Kudos!

Today is my Birthday - Clanobucklin, Beloved Member

Happy Birthday Charles; may you see many more years of laughter, love, and good fortune.

No Smoking in or outside your house

It's only a matter of time before we see this implemented here in B.C., I suspect. Homes are still considered the last bastion of personal freedom, and so far any attempts to turn condo blocks completely non-smoking have been shot down, but lets face it; they already regulate where I can smoke...

    Bonehead Question

I would guess that a layer of slip would be all it takes...just make sure that it contains enough porcelain to completely seal the walls airway off, yet is thin enough to not just seal the airway. Probably wouldn't hurt to repeat every so often, too, just to be on the safe side. I know this...

    Hard to open tobacco tins

My preferred method as well, albeit with the tamper rather than the spoon.

    Pipe Cleaners?

BJ Longs; I order 5 bundles of regular, 1 bundle each bristled, tapered and fluffy with each months TAD order. If I find I am running dangerously low, I'll scour local tobacconists and headshops for "Zen" brand (perform as well as the BJ Longs, but at 3x the cost), but usually end up settling...

Rain damage = gun room/man cave

You can get air purifiers pretty cheap, I would toss up some links, but I'm posting from my smartphone while Hydro tries to reconnect my power, and I hate these funny keys.

    CD pipe rack

That looks really sharp James; I like it!
